Guest mercurysteve Guests Posted 16/02/05 09:42 PM Share Posted 16/02/05 09:42 PM Thanks guys, I am a bit confused though (ueah I know, some might say that is standard for me ).By changing the cat, are you saying it will over boost until one day I do the Edit? Hopefully wont be to loud, and not droan to much. Ill change the cat to a hi flow 3.5 when I get the EDIT I know the factory setup leading to the cat is quite good as it is. Its a 3" cast dump and flows into 3" or 3.5" anyways. I think there is not much better than that as anything else wont be justified by the cost you'll pay, and the kw gain will be minimal.~allenI'm not really going change the exhuast as I feel (like Nizpro) that the major restriction on the whole system is the intercooler...so that will be the first thing to go.The only reason I would change to a full single 3.5" in for the sound and the possiblity of FLAMES outside that there's probabily not much for kw/dollar. Nizpro reckon that an aftermarket exhaust is only worth about 10-15rwkws at about 340rwkws...Dave.
Guest mercurysteve Guests Posted 17/02/05 04:22 AM Share Posted 17/02/05 04:22 AM Well, I did it, put on a hi-flow XForce Cat 3" and one full 3" mandrel pipe right throught to the rear muffler. Sounds tough enough, a tad droany but very driveable/liveable as a daily driver. Goes hard without any sign of overboosting or spiking. :o The car seems to deliver a smoother power, boost seems to not hit as suddenly but the taco gets to redline (well, if there was a redline on the dash gauges) way quicker, so I can only assume that it is more efficient and perhaps a bit faster. I will get a dyno run done again soon to know for sure, a break on spending for a few months and then, EDIT, here I come baby! :o I have no pics, but very similar to Rob's pipe picture, except it contines on right through to the CAT. I mean unless the new cat has no more flow then the stock cat, but I doubt this very much...please explain??Dave.
dave- Member 157 Member For: 20y 22d Location: Melbourne Posted 18/02/05 01:35 AM Share Posted 18/02/05 01:35 AM Here's my theory. There is a known problem with the "fly by wire" accellerator pedal with all BA Falcons. We have done almost 30, and mine is getting done tomorrow. There is no loss in performance, all that happens is when you go past, say, 1/4 throttle, the engine light comes on, and "usually" stays on until you stop accellerating. It does log a code in the ECU, a quick hookup with a PDS/WDS will verify this.I would say its pure coincidence that the engine light is coming on after the exhaust was done. Give your dealer a quick call, and ask if there has been any problems with the engine light coming on while accellerating. If you have no luck with that, let us know.....that's what I reckon, will be interesting to see how close I am! <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Sounds like what I'm experiencing right now. Last week they diagnosed a faulty TPS but it wasn't replaced until yesterday. For the past few days the engine check light would come on under moderate load and turn off a second or so later. Last night I did a twisty run and it was coming on all the time. Don't care anymore, can't feel any performance difference and I'm sick of going back to the dealers for bullsh*t fixes. When it breaks, its their problem heh
Guest mercurysteve Guests Posted 21/02/05 02:55 AM Share Posted 21/02/05 02:55 AM I was also told it was a bit odd by DW (that it was not overboosting with the exhaust mod) but hey, I'm happy about that!
