The $1000 option has more benefits than just sound...

All I wanted was some more noise, and yes a $1000 exhaust will sound better, but I don't want to spend that much on a little bit more sound....

EWT I didn't have a hotdog put in as as I was told it will reduce that raspiness of the exhaust. So not much crackle etc.

Basically, I wanted more sound than my stock exhaust for the cheapest price. That is what I have got, and I am happy with it.

I say just do it, if you don't like it change it. Better than spending $1000 and not being happy with it, so start at the bottom I say (if you are not after power).

Hi Dilz,

What else have you had done so far and why are you thinking of replacing the rear with hotdog?

Are you looking for performance or just sound?

I was originally only going to change the cat but then I bought a different tip to put on, unfortunately it's longer then the factory one so I can't just swap it over. Was gonna take the center out but sounds to crap around town for me so hopefully by getting a shorter hotdog for the rear it will solve both problems.

Oh good to see you found someone to take you for a drive around before you got it done. Mine must be different, best part is having no sound at 110km...

I think people on this thread need to point out what model T they have, I had a BA which the previous owner had the center muffler removed and replaced with just straight through pipes and it sounded awesome. Now that I've traded up to an FG I wanted a similar sounding exhaust so I had the center muffler replaced with a hotdog this time, knowing that the FG's were a little louder to begin with and the resuilt was horrible. Nothing like the deep mean sound the BA had, the FG sounded REALLY loud and doughy at around 1700 - 2000 RPM, making it shocking to drive around town. Admiteddly the BA was a manual and now I have the ZF in the FG which probably doesn't help but personally I hated the result.

Leigh is 100% right - the model differences are critical to the discussion. On BA/BF centre out is really deep/angry, on FG not even close due to different stock rear muffler and is a disappointing in comparison (just the note that is).

As for the XForce sounding better than centre out - certainly quieter/smoother yes, but sound is "generic" 6 cylinder hence may not be worth the $1000.

Hot-dogs mellow the sound so less harsh, not necessarily quieter. I think on the G6ET (being the 'luxury' model) centre alone wouldn't suit the car, so I would remove centre to increase note, but put a hotdog in and should sound better in normal driving and not too loud.

Turbos will always sound different to n/a's but to get them to sound good I think you need at least a cat back. I wanna hear trainers before I 100% do mine. Being the exact same car and all.

Yeah it is defiantely not what I was expecting, really loud to start off with, and can sound bad with the auto(you hear every shift, sucks when putting around town but downshifts sound good when slowing down). I have done around 400km's with it, and I'm either getting used to it or it is quietening down. I think it is a better option for a modified fg looking for some more noise rather than standard. after having a close look at it I wonder wether it would be better to cut it out from where it is still twin pipes, then run twins all the way to a y piece at the rear flange. probably too expensive for anyone to test out, but I think it might be a nicer sounding option.

mine has quietened down a bit.

its only loud at start up.

and driving around I barely even notice it.

but my exhuast has always been different. as in it never even had a slight note to it when the muffler was in.
