ok I finally got this done on the FG ute this morning. 160 bucks and this place didnt hesitate at all doing it so I assumed they have done it before.

Thoughts:

centre muffler is massive and pretty heavy, no wonder its so quiet.

The sound on start up is perfect, doesnt drone at any speed, not too loud at all.

I was exspecting it too be even louder than it is, even though mine stock was very very quiet compared to other stock T's.

I think these should be this loud at stock. :spoton:

cheers

hey fordfreak any chance of a sound clip at some stage? Would be good to hear, inside or outside. Would you say it is as loud as a catback system?

Well I went down to see my mate Lee this morning at Caloundra Exhaust. I told him how I'd been reading that the centre muffler removal seems to be the go. His comment was "is this internet bulls**t" of cause I said that was were I got the info. He said why the centre muffler, I said because it is less droney. He said "bulls**t". He then informed me that he had done centre mufflers at peoples request, but because he knew me he said "that if we do the rear I can use the right pipes so that it isn't droney and we will be able to make it less laggy because it is a far bigger restriction than the centre muffler". Further he stated that it will also be better on fuel. He showed me a centre muffler and how unrestricted it was and how much smaller it is than the rear muffler he then stated "that it doesn't matter where the potatoe is in the exhaust its still a potatoe and as far as I'm concerned the rear muffler is a potatoe and a big one". I have known Lee for 12-13 years and know how good he knew his craft, so I said I will do as you wish. He said don't worry mate this will surprise you because I know exactley were to cut the pipes to get the most out of it. So 2 and a half hours later we are ready to roll. Well what a difference the car sounds awesome, but realistically that's not what I wanted. I wanted to notice a performance difference, and all I can say for $165 (which included the two nice chrome 3 inch tips) the car is so much less laggy, and is definately pushing for longer, therefore noticabley faster. But more noticable was how much more boost was available on gear changes, and how much smoother the changes were. There is also a noticable difference with back pressure when backing off, car doesn't seem to have as much engine braking.I then went back to thank him for steering me in this direction, he stated that when it comes to turbos custom exhausts are just as important as custom tunes. He highlighted that he could further customise the exsisting system as it was fundamentally a good exhaust that just required a few little tweats to allow it to fullfill most peoples requirements. Further the car looks so much nicer with twin 3 inch tips. Lee has been involved with twin turbo charged 540 cube race boats and knows alot about turbo tech, if you need a job done properly, he is your man, as he said many exhaust shops use the cheap Chinese prefab stuff (that is made from inferior steel, Lee's words) because they don't understand that this is an Art. It is either in your blood or not. So there you go, excellent reasonably priced custom work can actually save you money and give the best results.

Best bet is to get a photobucket account, upload them on there then paste a link to the pictures on here.

intersting reading impellors write up though. although my rear muffler is the same size as the centre. and that you aint gonna feel any so called performance gains from removing a muffler lol.
