Geea, my husband & I were in a exhaust shop today and we asked him what he do and how much it would cost to open the exhaust up and rumble a bit more.

He said he would have to order the pipes and mufflers in, he also commented that we could have a dual system or 3 inch single system at a cost of $550. My husband thinks its fairly costly and also it could be a waste of time considering we may get the APS Phase 1 put on later on (we're not sure as we are not certain of costs at this point in time) so we are unsure at the moment.

What would you suggest we do??

Costs of APS Phase 1 also would help out.

Thanks Geea

If you were going to get an exhaust anyway along the line somewhere as well as the phase 1, I would get the axhaust first, that way the phase 1 can be tuned with the exhaust already there and could yield some better gains, also saves paying to get the car retuned after the exhaust goes on.

Now I am not a smart man, so could someone please explainto me the what make a mandrel bend different to any other kind of bend?

Also, I realise it sounds better, but what about performance? Is it noticable? Whatr about the talk of the ECU learning the different backpressure then detuning itself?

Has anyone had problems with warranty? The dealer I have been using are real knobs about just about everything.

Craig, I take it that the factory centre will just bolt straight back in if I don't like the mod?

Thanks,

Antony

1) I think the difference is that the mandrel bend doesn't affect the size of the pipe at all whereas a normal bend may have a slight impact.

2) The sound is better and the performance gain would only be marginal I believe. I dont think the cpu would change at all to counter it.

3) I've never had any warrenty problems because of it.

4) Yes if you dont like it the original will bolt straight back in. If your dealer is a knob you could always put the muffler back in before seeing him.

To my knowledge the 2 things that you can change without breaking warrant are

Air filter and exhaust they cannot legally force you to use only these parts from ford. I'm not a lawyer though it's just what I've been told and read. I have done these mods to my car and the mechanics have noticed it and just asked when I had them done. They also said that the ECU would relearn turbo back pressure ect and should actually go better.

Yeah that's about right, expect if that part cause another to fail it wont be warranted. Eg. If you get a bigger exhaust and the extra vibration causes a bumper clip to fall off and your bumper to sag, it wont be fixed under warranty. that's the example my dealer gave me.

mandrel bends flow better what crimped bends . the better the flow the more power you can make.

also no reduction of tube diameter.

A negative is it costs more to make mandrel bent exhust . the bender

is expensive to buy as you need a mandrel for each size of pipe you want to bend.
