Throttle Fault Anyone?

A good mate of mine has a BA XR8 and the other night while driving in the city had the Throttle (acceleration) fault indicator light come on, which is an orange light on the right of the speedo.

The light comes on under acceleration from low revs, but the car has no obvious change in performance. It comes on for about 3-4 seconds then turns off. In the owners manual (page 25)it says that there is a throttle fault present.

He is taking it to a dealer tomorrow to get it looked at, a dealer yesterday said it will only require a re-flash probably, and will only take a few mins.

Anyone else had this prob and what happened?

I have seem this fault a couple of times and would be supprised if its just a software problem. All the ones I have seen we accel pedal faults which needs a new pedal and they are on back order at the moment. Good luck. On the early prototypes of the BA with this throttle system, we had big electrical power cut out buttons fitted to the dash as if the pedal faulted it would sometimes give you 1.2 throttle when you least wanted it. hit the panic button and all was okay

So harasn the throttle response was halved when there was a fault?

He said the light only comes on for a few secs but no difference in power delivery...could there be a chance of the throttle sticking on? Would be scary in a 260kw XR8!

Anyway will find out tomorrow from a dealer

nah no chance of it sticking on as if it sees a fault it has software to just shut it down. in the early proto's they didn't do that. they would just stop where the fault occured. usually about 2500rpm. fun when your trying to stop! the current faults seem to only light up the light when accelerating. if you hold your foot in the one position it goes off. keep us posted. bet it needs a accel pedal but!

Harasn mate, spot on!

Had it looked at Strapp Ford and they had a thorough look at it all morning, and found that there was a fault within the throttle module at half revs. They seemed to think it would get worse over time then go into limp mode or result in hardly any acceleration.

Anyway the module will be replaced, there is a 5 week wait on the part but fortunately this car is getting fixed tomorrow due to some good hard work by the team!

Any word as to why it happens Harasn? Fault electronically?

Rodderz,

From what I have read both the peddal and throttle body have at least 3 sensors each. These are for redundancy etc. So I would tend to think that one of the 3 sensors in the peddal part is playing up. This would account for it not going into limp home mode etc. If all 3 failed then it would go into limp home mode...

that's my 2c worth anyway

I dont actually know that much about how the pedal system works but I just knew the faults and what they mean. electonics are always fun. One thing I have learnt is that if you let the smoke out of the wires, its impossible to get it back in!
