Call me mad... call me looney... yes, it's all true. Regardless, I am planning a long coast-to-coast driving holiday...This trip is based around the fact that I am presenting tutorials at the SAGE-AU 2005 Technical Conference which is in Perth on September 5-9 and I have this urge to knock over a large chunk FBT miles. I'm planning to take ~10 days to leisurely make my way back home after the conference by basically following the southern coastline from Perth back to Sydney. For those who know me, I'm a bit of a photographic nutcase. So I'm looking for some ideas on interesting places to visit on the "fun drive" home. I have a rough outline of places I'll be visiting...Perth: Meet the locals, BBQ, go for a cruise.... In WA: Caves Rd, Margaret River, Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse, Albany, Wave Rock, Esperance, "The 90 Mile Straight", Eyre Bird ObservatoryIn SA: Head of Bight, Fowler's Bay, Smoky Bay, Murphy's Haystacks, Port LincolnAdelaide: Voy, I trust you can keep me amused for a day or two...In VIC: Great Ocean Road of course!!!Melbourne: Meet the locals, BBQ, Friday night drags, maybe even a visit to Kittens???If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd be more than happy to hear them.Cheers, Phil.PS. Yes, I know it's four months away... but my schedule is just nuts between now and September. Most of this month I'm overseas for work, then I'll be Pommie-bashing through July (Fanatics UK Tour) and then back on the road for work in August....<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Alas I'll be on the busses. Anyhow you will have to call in on your way through and have a night with us. Give me a rough date for when you'll be coming through the Bay and I'll mark the calendar. Going to be an awesome, but long drive. Really looking forward to it.

Still got a mountain of photos to go through.... Anyway, time for me to plan out this Insane Odyessy of mine!!! Below is a rough itinerary of my little adventure. Would be good if I could get some help on organising some local gatherings or cruises when I drop into town.....Aug31-Sep4: Drive Sydney to PerthDriving straight there without any major detours. Planned stopovers in Temora (NSW), Port Augusta (SA), Eucla/Cocklebiddy (WA).Sep 5-9: SAGE-AU 2005 Technical Conference, PerthWould be good if we could organise a little forum dinner on either Monday or Tuesday night.Sep 10: Perth to Albany via Caves RoadWould love to have some of you WA-folk join me for a run down Caves Rd! Other potential highlights I'm looking at include:- Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse- Margaret River- One Tree Bridge & The Four Aces- Mount Clarence TrailSep 11: Albany to EsperanceI'm thinking of making an inland detour to visit Wave Rock in Hyden. Anyone been there lately? Is it worthwhile?Sep 12: Esperance to CocklebiddyGot a very early start this day as I'm going to visit the Eyre Bird Obseratory in the afternoon.Sep 13: Cocklebiddy to Smoky BayNot sure if there are any highlights along the Bight. This could be a long drive...Sep 14: Smoky Bay to AdelaideWant to check out Murphy's Hay Stacks and visit Port Lincoln. I'll be staying at "Castle de Cain" while in Adelaide (thanks Voy!).Sep 15: Free day in AdelaideWould be good to catch up with you all for dinner somewhere. I'm sure Voy will organise something... Sep 16: Adelaide to MelbourneDo I need to say it??? Great Ocean Road!!!! I wonder what the Mexicans get up to on a Friday night? Perhaps Calder Park Drags followed by a trip to Kittens??? Sep 17: Free day in MelbourneI'll probably need a day to recover from the previous night... Sep 18-19: Back home to Sydney via Princes HwyDepending on how I'm going, this could be a one or two day journey. Lots of lovely country around here...Really looking forward to meeting those of you who live along my touring route, as well as drooling all over your beautiful machines. Damn at work have conspired to commit me (without my knowledge) to customer jobs in KL and Bangkok. Not happy, Jan! Really want to strangle my boss next time I see him. :cussing: Anyway, I'll still be in Perth on Sept 5-9. Would be good to catch up with you folks for a beer while I'm over there...
