just got back last night was there all day fri and all sat.

I stayed at the hotel that was previously called the furama.

there are heaps more vy's on sydneys roads than here in melbourne, I was stunned by the ammount of au fairlane taxi's, there. u r all lunatic drivers, road rage is very high there. :innocent:

lancers were the most common choice of rice burners,

your train link from the airport to central station is a joke, $11 each. or $18 all up for me and a mate in a taxi to the hotel door.

sydney airports (domestic) security makes melbournes look like the local airport in an outback town of 300 people.

your nightlife rocks, with so many great pubs everywhere in the cbd  our fav being sports central at fox studio's ( sport/alcohol lovers heaven ).

the cbd is real annoying due to roads twisting and turning and leading to dead ends, unlike melbournes cdb that is built in squares.

the diggers on anzac day were pissers! drinking outside pubs on the sidewalk

all in all it was really fun and I had a great time, which was cemented wen a brand spanking xr8 gunned it right next to us on george street and tore away leaving me drooling  , that is the best ozzie stock engine note going around!

btw go the swannies! wat a great win!

oz utester I agree with most of what you said there about our crap roads etc. but have to disagree with the driver attitudes. I think you may have been unlucky to have copped a couple of dickheads because my experience is Melbourne drivers are generally more agressive.

I don't want to start the old Sydney vs Melbourne debate but....

The unwritten rule in sydney is to merge two lanes with a one car from each lane taking turns, the other instance is when a lane ends the car behind you allows you to come into his lane.

It seems to me the unwritten rule in Melbourne is to flatten it and cut the other guy off and leave him stranded. It has happened to me so many times down there that it can't be coincidence. Once when I did manage to get in front of one guy he was so pissed off he wanted to get out of the car and get stuck into it.

l agree Phantom, Melbourne drivers are the worst l have come across here in Oz and overseas.

l drive a bit in LA and l am always suprised by how corteous drivers there are. Fast but corteous. If drivers in LA were like in Melbourne the road system would be anarchy.

yer there is, but I was mainly commenting on the use of horns up there. at just about every set of lights if ppl werent taking of and moving as the lights went green then beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. ppl were in such a rush up there. I must say the cabbies are better up there, it was like 17.05 for the trip and he gave back the 5 cents, in melb he would have rounded it up to $20.00

If you want to see some sedate friendly driving comes down to Tassie for the weekend. The most easy going driving experience in the world without a doubt (until you get out onto the twisty east and west coast roads on your own that is :D ).

With our small population, and everything being in such close proximity, it is very rare to see any kind of road rage whatsoever. Even blowing your horn (unless it's for a completely useful purpose) will make you seem like a total wa*ker. You can actually half go to sleep while driving around Hobart’s CBD (which incidentally takes less than 2 minutes to get through) and come out fine at the other end :)

1 thing I learned in my 2 years in Sydney was, you can do anything there, cut anyone off(not that I do intentionally). So long as you give them the 'THANKS MATE!' wave, everything is sweet..............hehehe
