Hi all,

I have an 03 XR6T with SSS. When starting from dead cold and selecting R a whining sound kicks in for about 10 seconds, after that all is cool. I have left it overnight with a dealer twice now. The first time they said it was just the turbo winding up (which sounded like crap to me), the second time they said there was no noise at all (crap again because it happens everyday). At my insistance they checked the oil level and that is supposedly good. I still suspect the tranny because it doesn't happen in D or N only in R.

Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestion what it may be. I think the dealer just couldn't be stuffed having a good look at it.

And I thought I was the only one :gooff:

Mine is also an '03 auto with 45,000km. Noise started about 3 months ago under the same circumstances as yours. Now the noise occasionally stays for alot longer than before and also occurs when changing into drive.

Rather than going through the same bullsh*t with Ford that you have I took it to an auto trans place with a view of getting an independant report, as well as getting a trans cooler. After dropping the oil they found, what in their opinion was an unacceptable level of metal filings.

Additionally when putting it back together they noticed a strange whirring noise when selecting reverse - fortuneately. I now have an independant written report that raises concerns about the integrity of the auto and whilst they couldn't tell me exactly whats causing the noise its likely to be the tourque converter.

My plan at this stage is to address it with ford and if need be leave it until the noise is that obvious that even ford can't deny it. Ultimately a rebuild or replacement will occur prior to the warrenty expires in a years time.

Keep us posted on any progress at your end and I'll do the same:spoton:

I claimed a whining 1st and 2nd and was successfull :pooh: ....but I did state right from the start that I was making a warranty claim and wish to pursue it. :gooff:

They fixed it by Ion supplying a gear set.....it still whines a little but I'm pretty happy with the result.

:gooff:
