With any high/performance vehicle there is eventually a trade off.The Tremec T56 6 speed is a strong robust transmission and is virtually unbreakable. Tremec T56 6speed transmissions are built to run Automatic specification lubricants, Castrol Transmax Z synthetic transmission fluid is the best lubricant that we have found and tested to use in these transmissions, replacing the standard auto/trans fluid in the T56 with the Castrol fluid will greatly improve the roll over noise in these transmissions when the vehicle is idling in neutral at operating temp. The insulation between the engine and transmission is the clutch assembly, to combat the roll over issue the vehicle should be fitted with an effective clutch with an insulated hub. The standard Ford clutch does not have the best in this area hence the roll over noise that a lot of owners are concerned about. At Mal Wood Auto we have been testing an 11'' clutch assembly on a steel flywheel for quite a while with fantastic results, at a recent test we removed a standard clutch from a car and fitted our steel flywheel and 11'' clutch ( with a good quality insulated hub) and the transmission had NO noise at idle.I will continue the testing in my oun XR6T ute, my ute presently runs an 11'' clutch and we will be fitting another unit next week and we will give it extensive testing, I will post the results. First noticed it after driving only 60kms when a mate pointed it out. The sound appears to come from somewhere not far under the leather boot covering the gear stick. Like you, clutch in makes the noise vanish. However the other day I did notice it wasnt making the noise - I wonder if the gear box is hot it doesnt make the noise. Will have to confirm if that is so next time I do a decent drive. No noise under acceleration. I have done just under 3000km.I do notice its kind of notchy going into 2nd, 3rd etc. You can really feel it going into gear. that's not necessarily bad (I hope!) as I am used to motorbike gear boxes which may really clunk into gear but are very solid once in gear. This gearbox feels similar. (Unlike the T5 which went into gear easilier but didnt feel solid).

Generally tends to just get worse. When you are forced to get a new clutch, definitely time to get an upgraded clutch give it looks like you are at Phase 2. So should I ask Ford to change the oil or should I just change it myself?? I 9/10 make these noises I cant see them changing the box??

I just considered it normal as you are putting the engine under load at such low rpm?Is there a fix for this? does the changing of oil fix this and other things?
