please explaing this noise, I currently have a fluttering noise of escaping exhaust coming from around the turbo area, it turn into a squeel when I accelerate. The noise goes away once the exhaust pipe warms up and expands. Does this sound similar to what your experienceing?

Dazza.

I had this problem. Turned out to be loose bolts on the turbo manifold. Its worse when cold, then when it heats up it expands a bit closing where the air is escaping from. Take the heat shields off around the turbo and tighten all bolts. Fixed my problem you guys are talking about.

What can I say it is a nice car to drive plus with work a get around quiet abit. So have given it quiet a workout and must say only for the turbo problem and a water pump seal that is all that has gone wrong with it. I am quiet happy with my car soon will get series 2.

Yes this is a common thing to happen on turbo cars, the flange bolts to come loose after time, and do need to be checked. I do believe it read it in the cars sevice books that a certain checks they must inspect and tighten the exhaust flange bolts.

I had that fluttering noise on the way home today from work.. It usualy only happens once in a blue moon.. but for a bit of experience I decided to have a look at the turbo manifold just to see if there were any loose bolts..

Gettin the heat shield off 2 min ( easy part )

Checked all the bolts, they were all fine.. When would be the best time to check these bolts??? First thing in the morning or after the T has been run

Trying to get that bolt back on in the heat shield... :spoton: an hr..... Could not get it lined up plus it was so small.. must of only had about 1 1/2cm of thread on it

Ahh well took it for a spin afterwards and gave it a right old flogging and no fluttering this time... And all my hose's stayed on :spoton:

Check the bolts when the engine is cold - ie. first thing in the morning.

I agree Ross we have noticed it here at work all the time. I have replaced mine before broken and missing..
