I use manual mode most of the time, except for when I'm on the freeway or country driving. only had the car for 3 weeks but the auto seems fine with this. mind you I dont launch the car by increasing takeoff revs under braking. I just use the manual mode to de-accelerate prior to taking a corner. :spoton:

yes exar, to answer your question I also find a bump or slight bang from the back of the car when it chages to 1st whan you slow down. I assume this is normal. anyone else have any ideas.

could it be diff clunk?

Yes, I too get that "Thud"(more of a thud than a clunk I think) I think its in the LSD part of the diff, as I also get it slowly moving through a carpark with the steering slightly off center (giving two diferent rearwheel speeds) The 9" in an old Fairlane I had did this also.

Shifting in manual mode 1 2 3 4 wont hurt the box BUT going from 4 to 3 to 2  in manual mode you will damage it from what the Auto specialist told me.

George , can you elaborate a bit?Your comment would possibly detract from the functionality and fun of the semi auto, myself included :spoton: .

I would have thought that harsh braking then mashing the loud pedal out of corners causing the box to kick down under heavy load would be more extreme than down changing in manual mode and keeping the revs and the car even on entry/exit before pulling another gear. Any experts care to add ?

Are you saying you should never change down through the gears? Doesn't sound right... why would Ford put in a stick that changes up AND down, if down was a bad idea?

I agree, if its not good for the box, then why do it.

I am quite sure the SSS auto will only shift down if it is within a safe rev range to do so.

Must admit I 2 drive around in manual mode quite often. Depending on your city driving habbits the T will get better fuel economy in manual mode. The engine doesnt have to labour (on low revs) as much with the taller ratios when running around that 60 mark.

Mine too will give a small dunk/clunk when dropping from 2nd to 1st. However that's usually because some evasive driving is required while trying to stop. :fishin:

The only thing you have to watch when you knock it into manual mode and tap the gear selection, is that you now control the gear selection. I.e If you decide to launch it from the lights and forget to tap the the change ... be prepared for the engine cut out to kick in. It wont change up automatically. :spoton:

To reset it simply knock it accross to "auto" mode and then back to man however *dont* tap it up. Once you come to a complete stop it will automatically select 1 in manual mode.

Heat is the killer of the auto; assuming that your not going to do a burn out every 10 meters I wouldnt sweat it that much.

In 1st gear once it hits 6 or 6.5revs not sure which one it is the saftey system kicks in and drops you to second gear .I think this is removed with the edit dont quote me on it though not entirley sure :kissmy:
