Ive noticed over the past few months my coolant level has dropped a little bit, its at the min level when cold before start up. I know some people have had an o ring leak from the water pump, would this be more than likely the cause? I have never noticed any leaks and all hoses look ok, ive nearly done 30,000km. One other thing ive wondered about is that if the T's turbo is watercooled, wouldnt the water turn to steam at some stage? If so, does it stay in the system because it is sealed or can it escape at all?

Sounds like the o ring to me, I had mine go at about 30,000 too, you wont see any drips as it drips onto something hot and evaporates immediatley, I was going through about 5 litres of coolant a month. When you standing still at the lights wind down your window and check if you can smell that distinct burning coolant smell. It is a fairly long job for ford to fix it too.

Thanks dazza, ive never had to top the coolant up so ill keep an eye on it for a while and see if it gets any worse. How long did they take to do yours?

was an all day job, the service manager said the turbos are a pain in the arse to do because they arent allowed to remove the turbo to do it, thus is takes much longer than the NA.

Could also be the radiator as they are prone to leaking from the seam. Happened to mine @ 40k and replaced under warrenty no worries :spoton:

If your worried about Ford giving a wrong diagnosis drop into a radiator place and they'll tell you quick smart.

Ive had about 3 coolant leaks on my T .. 28,000k

The first 2 were from O rings and the clips being loose and hose slipping.. The 3rd time the dealer cracked it and said were giving you a new radiator and all new hose's and O rings :spoton:

No probs since... been about 5000k

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

There are two o-rings that can go loose. One is above the alternator which you can fix for yourself, or take the dealer 5 mins.

The other one is at the water pump located under the turbo which is what you were experiencing.

My Ute's in getting the Radiator replaced today, it was leaking from the side tank closest to the airbox. When you look under the bonnet try and see if there's any white or cream coloured stains anywhere, usually a good indicator of where the leak is coming from...

I have the one that leaks above the alternator, don`t want to take it to ford can I leave it to another mechanic to fix,it`s not a special part is it.
