I have a fairly late build Mk I XR6T (got it September last year). Never had any brake shudder, but...

1. There's a squeel when brakes are applied lightly.

2. There is a slight rattle on sharp bumps, like rough bitumen, or train lines, which sounds to me like caliper rattle.

Is it worth taking it to Ford service for either of these problems for fixing under warranty, or will they say it's normal? I did a search here and found messages about the squeel. Did any of you get it fixed?

There is a fix for the squeel(new pads), but it depends on how may km's you've done as to whether they will fix it free or not. Not sure what the limit is.

I've done 18k but a pro-rata arrangement would be fair.

Ford will replace the pads if you complain before 15,000 km

I had done over 16,000, but they lied on the paperwork, so I got the new pads for free.

So, complain before 15k to be on the safe side.

For what its worth, I have premium brakes and even with the new pads, they still squeel like buggery. I just live with it now.

argh! too late - I'm on 18k. I only just noticed it because, with the onset of Winter, I've turned off the aircon and wound the Windows down a bit.

Your brakes "rattle" could be a result from the slide callipers needing greasing on the back. I have a MKII and they rattled something shocking a week after I picked it up and ford explained the reason why. however they still rattle to a certain degree, Aussie built cars I guess...

My MKII T is at 13K, took it back to dealer 5 times for squeaking front breaks (Premium Breaks) They said thay fixed it every time and it still squeaks like hell. I suppose this is what you get from Ford for paying $ 3000 to get Premium brakes.

ufo,

I have put up with the squeel for 21k km now and I have bitten the bullet and bought some Bendix Ultimates.

I can assure you that Ford CANNOT fix the squeeling with the TSB replacement pads. My "fix" pads did not squeel for 3k km, but are now back to their normal squeeling.

It is pathetic that Ford take 2 years to fix this problem, yet it is not fixed.

I will report back to the forum after I fit the Bendix pads.

I believe Ford's new fix for the squeel is to shut the windows and turn up the music.
