Ive done dozens of them, here goes....

disconnect battery

remove drivers seat (optional)

remove handbrake lever

remover center console

unclip bonnet release handle

remove scuff plates

remove a pillar trims

remove side dash trims and remove the 2 bolts on either side

pull back both kick panel trims

unlug connectors behind kick panels and remove plastic box from cavities

unplug RCM under center of the dash

unplug brown connector at fuse box

remove lower steering shaft bolt in drivers foot well and slide shaft out of knuckle

remove 10mm bolts from underneath center of dash and L/H of drivers footwell

undo (do not completely remove from vehicle) the 2 10mm side bolts that sit in the front door hinge gap...

pop the small trim off the top center of the dash to expose the allen key bolt

just loosen this bolt, DO NOT REMOVE IT

(think that's all)

get a friend to help lift it out

remove the 3 screws in the HIM pop off the linkages and that's all there is to it

all this can be done in about 20mins allow a little more than that to refit it all

the HIM will need to be recalibrated by a dealer though...

OK, I took my car to Ford to have the steering knock fixed, the heater looked at and the floor matt lugs fixed.

The steering had a Ford fix that seems to have worked, but the steering is a fair bit heavier now.

They tested the heater, found it didn't work (miracle) and reprogrammed the heater module (whatever that is). So the heater works fine now (without removing any of the dash), but the CD player doesn't work!

I should have known that Dealership work usually results in the car coming out with more issues than it did when it went in.

I'll take it back and keep you posted.

OK, well my wife borrowed the car tonight and walks in tonight complaining the heater is not working.

So after going out to have a fiddle with the car I have found that the Air con is nice and cold, but flicking across to the heat (all the noise occurs as usual)

I get luke warm(just) air out of the foot well, and cold air out of all other vents.

oh and im out of warranty, and wife says if the heaters doesnt work, we are taking her astra on our xmas holidays! :buttrock:

I understand that it might be the stalk etc, but is there any way to manually set it to heat till I go to the dealership?

merry xmas to all ..
