did anyone read an article in Motor or Wheels awhile ago that Ford Australia could get access to the american 7.0 litre V8 that the yanks have just started using in there pick ups over there which replaced the old Triton 5.4 V8.

Rumor was that it may find a home in the Ford falcon to compete with the LS2 donkey that HSV has.

I remember reading a similar story but it was a 6.2litre "lightning" I think. They were hinting it to be a FPV only motor. But only read in a mag. It wouldnt surprise me if FPV did take on a bigger motor and ford continued the Boss 5.4L.

The 6.2 litre has already been killed off before it even started. Do a search and you will find an article about it on one of the american Ford sites. Lack of development dollars was the reason. Would of been good to see a 6.2 litre GT.

Also full credit to FPV for not going ahead with a half arsed HO. It has to be done properly and be able to destroy HSV's anytime, anyplace for it to be deserving of the HO name, just like its predecessors were capable of smashing Monaro's. If it was released and was whipped by a Clubsport or GTS it would tarnish the name.

If I ran FPV I'd be really tempted to take the smartarse way and simply add a "Handling Option" to the GT's option list and simply never disclose to the media what its about. Other than that, maybe they should wait for the new model in 08

After all the talk at that other Ford forum about the GT-HO and a few members there having placed deposits on such a car, it got the better of me today. l called the salesman l have bought our last 3 Fords from at New Oak in Melbourne. Told him l wanted to place a deposit on the upcoming GT-HO. The phone went dead for a few seconds. Right he said, let me call you back.

Called back 2hrs later and said that all the FPV dealer princiiples had a meeting out at FPV HQ last Thursday and the question was asked re; release of a GT-HO. David Flint said there will not be one, too expensive, too small a market etc etc. The DP at New Oak is the President of the FPV dealers association (or whatever its called) and he was adamant that there wont be one and that they wouldnt take my money................ :wavey:

Now l can understand why they would deny the cars existance but New Oak were adamant l was wasting my time. Could Ford really keep something that secret?

I think your DP is toe-ing the corporate line mate. Remember, the higher up towards the top of the decision making and marketing tree, the closer to their chests will they keep their hands.

I'm sure we'll see a HO - Flint actually needs it to save his bacon 'cos I beleive his performance and tenure at FPV may be borderline at the moment. I'm guessing it will be the flagship to launch the next model range in 2007.

They should do a detuned v8 supercar for a HO, just like to old days :wavey: .

400kw, 6 speed holinger, ford solid 9" with a cut down aero package, I bet you would have no problem selling 100 of them for $120-140k.

Get the roll cage and race seat option...now I am just dreaming, FPV are TOO SOFT  :k24t:

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

That will never happen Mal and if it did l wouldnt buy one. l dont want something that hard. It will be a daily driver and needs to have some level of comfort and all the fruit.

Mondie,

I would have to Disagree mate. If it did come out it should be in limited numbers and such a unique(not nessessarily a track car) car that not even the silvertails in Sydneys nth would use it as a daily car. It should be something that people would see parked on the side of the road and would go, "wow check out the HO", and would tell their friends and family about 'that day' when they glimpsed an aussie legend.

Also,

I have been told by a couple of the salesman at Thompson Ford, Parra that one of the sales managers(FPV???) have bought the plates BAGTHO. Wishful thinking maybe???

I think people are forgetting the fact that the GT was originally based on a Fairmont <GS> and the GT-HO was a complete package built to win (In those days cars had to be STANDARD) Bathurst, so it was a luxary car with Huge Grunt and excellent Handling and Brakes (Relatively).

It wasn't a stripped down race-only machine (though apparently a b**ch in traffic) it was a very fast car that had a higher spec interior. What most people are expecting is more of an XR8 Sprint than a GT-HO.

The HO should maintain the GT 'luxary' and be whacked up to around 330-350KW, big brakes and a similar suspension package to what HSV are optioning on the R8. I think the Clubsport R8 is closest in PHILOSOPHY to the GT-HO.

Lumpy :crybaby:

Theres a reason why there won't be a GTHO.. There isn't a suitable engine that Ford makes, for it.

Ford could definately use a better flagship than the GT or GT-P (or typhoon)..

Maybe something with two simeased I6's to make a 8.0L V12.. Yes, that would be most suitable (make the handling acceptable, people follow power)..
