IMO for under $4K the LG 42PX4DV is a great buy.  I have one of these in the kitchen and am very impressed with its performance. I also have a 50" Pioneer in the lounge room and I can honestly say that for watching SD TV the LG looks better than the Pioneer, and given that it costs more than double is a great testament to the LG display.  As I only use the LG to watch TV, the built in HD-Tuner is ideal as there is no need for messy wires or set top boxes.  This unit has a number of inputs including HDMI and DVI so you can connect anything if need be and picture quality is great for the money (about $3500).  The only down side to this display is that is only SD (852x480) native resolution, but will scale down HD input.

If your after something that is true HD (1024x768) then I think LG do a similar unit DT-42PY10X? But this will probably blow your $4K plus some.  Hope this helps you.

I have one of these as well. It cost me $3200 and is pretty good. The only thing I noticed is that a dvd player works best with the composite connectors. The RCA yellow red and black connectors produce a really grainy picture. I bought 4years extra warrenty for $400 and a wall mount bracket for $200 and am pretty happy with the unit. The built in digital tuner makes watching sport so much better. The footy and supercars really impress me in widescreen. Only had the set for a week and now I dont spend as much time driving my T as im sitting at home watching $hit on TV...

Warranty is important. A good friend paid $13,000 for a Sony 3 years ago. The thing crapped itself a few weeks ago and cant be fixed. He's gotta buy a new one now.

Does anyone know if I can connect a VGA (computer) output direct to a HDMI input? Are there cables available for this type of connection? If so where can I buy them and how much do they typically cost?

The LCD came with a DVI to HDMI cable, a HDMI cable and a HDMI input.

I know there are VGA to DVI cables available. I can therefore connect the VGA to the DVI and the DVI to the HDMI.

I am however looking for a direct VGA (XGA actually) to HDMI connection if possible.

Regards,

aa

Hi guys.

Thanks for the replies to my request.

I went armed with this info to Domayne and Harvey Norman over the weekend and found out that the 42" screens look pretty ordinary when I compared the view to the 50" ones. Looks like I'll have to save a bit more before I buy my plasma (now 50"). Either that or find out where ones are falling out of back of trucks.

Cheers,

Max
