Manual Gear Change

Ok guys I test drove a manual XR6 the other day and I found that to actually change the gears I was having to put my arm at a funny angle due to the centre console..

to all you manual owners was this just a case of me not having the seat adjusted right (and possibly the way I hold the gear stick) or did you guys have a similar situation

this is one of the things that is putting me in limbo between a SSS and a 5-speed...

dave.

No worries here. The only problem I have is that the cup holders are useless for anything but cans. Bottles get in the way.

Yeah it can be a little strange at first but generally its seating thing and to some extent the way your grab'n the gear shift.

Unlike the SS the Xr's have a nice short throw on the change. Instead of grabing the gear shift selector with the palm of your hand; grib the shift changer with just the Pointer and index fingers, and guide the change. Dont try and brute force it like the notchy clunky agricultural SS.

U'll find it will be nice and fast change every time unlike the notchy clunky agricultural SS setup... even if you do get the short shift change.

Good luck in a T5

same for me, gear shift is smooth. I tend to drive with a 600ml coke in the passenger side cup holder which is not to bad

on a side not I have a ash tray I took from the focus in the drivers side, makes an excelent coin holder ;)

Ditto...

the T5 was annoying when the centre console drink holder lid was open... The mark2 has eliminated this and is much better

I had my seat quite a long way back initially, and then found the centre console annoying as well. However with the seat a little further forward (and the reach of the steering) it is fine. Mine is a six speed though - may be a different feel.

Yep, had a T5 in the DunnyDore Ute at 220KW and the one in the T feels identical in change and shift (I.e. arm movement).. even notches into 2nd the same way...
