As has already been said, CUSTOM TUNE, why go at it half arsed igsta? You deserve to have it go to its maximum, so "just do it"

It's great everyone saying "Custom Tune it..." but for those of us unlucky? enough to live in a capital city that has less than 150000 people, it's a bit of an anticlimax... I don't have access to 15+ Edit tuners, so I have to make do with what's available... I don't really fancy a 3000km drive to Adelaide for a custom tune so I have to wait until someone is able to do it here. We have all the Dyno facilities, but no-one is able to custom tune the Edit software... like I said before, if an Edit tuner is after a holiday (business trip) I'm sure we could make it worthwhile.

Until then, I'm willing to try anything to stop it surging!

I have an autometer electronic boost gauge. It spikes to 13 sometimes but most of the times 12.

I would get it dynoed... your boost should be at 10psi (+ - 1) I dont think you would get 13psi from the 10psi standard tune... the problem lies somewhere else. Get it on a dyno. Gap the plugs first :sleepystuff:

both your car and mine both peaked early at 13psi and got pulled back to 10psi up top.

So why arent the plugs gaped to this dimension from factory. But dosnt making the gap smaller mean the spark is smaller, making less power.

made more power in my case... dont know the answer to the factory question... maybe someone more techinically minded can answer that one,

Higher Boost, more pressure, high the dielectric of the air fuel mix.

Higher Dielectric, less distance spark can jump... Bad ignition.

Smaller Gap, better spark, good ignition.

I had a copule of issues with my first box... got a new one and it runs great (after gapping the plugs) no issues, no surging and the car did not blow up!!!!!! and guess what... NO CUSTOM TUNE...... I will get one when I get my injectors put in though :laughing:

This is correct.

The EDIT package should come with an instruction sheet which directions to:

1. Re-gap your spark plugs to .85 - .89

2. Change the clip type intercooler hose clamp to a proper hose clamp before running the 10 PSI map.

Do these 2 things and your new program parameters will work great!! :spoton:

Some people bag Geeseman for being an "APS stooge" but you don't seem to hear of these problems with Unichip. Maybe because the car is usually dyno tuned as part of the installation process?

That's pretty much correct. The signal benders must ascertain how much to bend the signals in each car/computer to obtain the desired result, as opposed to giving the computer a new set of parameters.

The tuner will probably also make the spark plug gap adjustments as a part of the tuning process.

2 more words - shouldn't needit.............. ok 3 words!

I was told you don't need custom tune and you only need the custom tune if you have a modified car, or you want to squeeze everything out of it. Oh an what do you do if you don't live in a capital city, and don't have a fitter?

Sounds like a sales pitch to me BCR.

We've all had to reduce plug gap as the flame gets "blown out" by the increased cylinder pressure for the higher boost levels.

Yes but DW has got an ace up his sleave with regards to tuning for it to be pimpin that power! :msm::fool:
