It doesn't sound as serious as some of the suggestions - check the simple things first. There could be fuel filters in the carby inlets as well. Guest Noddy Guests Posted 02/05/05 11:17 AM Share Posted 02/05/05 11:17 AM Hey DudeI have a '73 boat and same model 350 Chev... and have experienced the same symptoms.First, disconnect the fuel hose that feeds the carby and pump some fuel into an ice cream container - bout half a cup. Turning the key will do this if you are running a mechanical fuel pump. Ensure there is a good supply of fuel and examine it for water or contaminents. If you have water - get a separating unit from your local marine supplies, they generally have an oil filter looking cartridge that traps any water in your tank. Also, store your tank full of fuel as air contains moisture which condensates into your fuel tank. Second, dont just change your fuel filter, check it by tapping out the contents into an ice cream container. Mine was full of black dots, aka fragments of the old galvanised fuel tank. Once they get like that - chuck the whole tank!! You can get flush kits but they only clean the contents and will not prevent the same thing from happening again.I replaced my original gal tank with an alloy one custom made for $330. The water separating device was about $100.Good Luck
