hey everybody... I have a boat with a 63' 327 chev with a twin barralled holley carb and am having some issues that have me stumped... went to our local lake on thurs... ran great and on friday to... sat started to get a very uneven idle, sort of surging so I turned the idle up a bit... then it seemed to be missing under power... then it wouldnt start... checked points, plugs, cant check timing cause wont idle... could it be fuel pump or carb issues?really lost... help

wounds like either fuel pump or dizzy problem mate.

also check your timing, when u say its difficult to start does it sound like its got a flat battery? like its struggling to turn over? if so then shes to far advanced. just back the dizzy off a tad.

if its a relatively stockish 327 they run about 7-15 degrees positive.

I see your problem. 3 days of skiing... you have too much time on your hands..

Does it run a timing chain?? might be stretched?? set all your timing marks to check it..

disconnect a fuel line and crank it over to chek the pump. Pull a lead off to chek spark.

running rich??

easiest way to check the timing is turn the engine over put the timing mark an the harmonic balancer on about 7 degrees btdc on the timing mark then lift the dizzy cap and see if the rotor is lining up with number 1 plug lead on the cap if all is good timing is ok

Checking timing on boat motors can be difficult. Many have no harmonic balancer, and the cam is generally advanced to buggery. Sounds like a fuel supply issue.
