I thought this was  thread about Typhoons?

PS - BS to wheelspin at 160 in Typhoon in the dry in top (4th), only way that should happen is if there is greasy road, or massive torque.  I have done this on a very slightly wet surface in a full race Cobra replica with 454 cu inch motor - just cant see it in a car that should have better traction and less torque.

Typhoons are all manuals aren't they? So it's cool right?

I agree with you about the wheelspin in fourth. I know I have done it in my ZL BUT it was when I was pushing 18psi AND it is lots lighter AND has way less rear end control AND sh!tty tyres compared to the Typhoon.

Hate to break it to you Scotty, but the F1 cars are manual.

They have a auto shift mechanisim, but still have a clutch and no torque converter or bands.

Have they not had an Auto in recent years & don't they only employ the clutch when taking off or when exiting Pit Lane, apart from the now defunct Launch Control, which was anything but manual.

Scotty,

Manual = Gears and Clutch plate. The way it shifts and engages the clutch is irrelivent. The F1 car's gearbox is computer controlled, so its a combination of engine management as well as the physical changing of gears and clutch that is automated, the gearbox is still manual.

The new Ferrari's and BMW M3 have a automated manual gearbox.

A drag car with a fully manual Auto gearbox is still a Auto because it has planetery gears, torque converter and clutch bands.

The launch control is more like our traction control and has not much to do with the gearbox, it was more engine and diff.

I don't live at the race track, and most days I only get to drive around 60kmh, so its pointless agruement that auto's are a smidged quicker on average, cause at normal speeds on the road they get hosed my a manual on roll-on! Shorter gears, direct drive, and more HP at the treads.

Not with the comparable difference our bathroom scales reveal, the weight difference would offset any gains! I'm a jocky by comparison! Power-to-weight!

A manual Typhoon with a 14lb boost CAPA edit (correctly tuned) and a clutch fix will (on a private road) spin the back wheels quite happily when the foot is planted in 4th gear (on a dry road) at 160 kph

How do I know this? :tease:

Been there, done that. Quite scarey actually.

Man what a machine

What with 165/65/13 cheese cutters on the back.

So your telling me at 160 kph in 4th gear if you plant it you break traction.

I just find that hard to believe with 300rwkw as my mates T with alot more then that wont spin at that speed if he does the same but god it goes like theres no tommorrow. :spoton:

Your mate isn't trying hard enough then.

What Lawsey said :bowdown::tease:

Oh I get it. You mean with a boot load of clutch at 6000rpm in 4th gear you can screach the tyres hey.

The point I was trying to make is that old mate said he'd never seen an auto race car, taking off with a clutch, paddling up or down the gears via the steering wheel & having some Geno launch it from a trailer ain't exactly what Jack Brabham went through is it. Now don't get all technical on me Mal, I know it ain't an auto but it ain't a "real" manual is it !!
