Hey all,

So I did do a bit of a search on this topic, but whilst there was a brief discussion about it a while back, there was no real "How to" post. My BA XRT sounds like an old air conditioner on idle, im 99.9% sure its the Heat shield. As I am new to B-Series, can someone let me know exactly what I need to do to remove the thing, and how long it should take? Thank you in advance guys!

Takes 5 minutes with the right sockets. From the rear, unbolt bolts 6, 4, 2 and 1 from the exhaust manifold, then the little bolts you can see down the side and it's off... :spoton:

I think maybe he means the one around the Cat on the exhaust, that one rattles like a MOFO on my car too.

My exhaust shop fixed it once, by squishing it a little bit but its worked its way back to a rattle shield :)

FEW 10MM NUTS AND A COUPLE OF TIN STRAPS WHICH CAN BE CUT OFF AND that's IT. I WOULDNT TAKE IT OFF ,JUST FOLD THE EDGES TOGETHER USING MULTIGRIPS THEN SQUISH THE CENTRE IN USING A HAMMER. I DID IT TO MINE AND IT HASNT MADE A NOISE SINCE.

Maybe that's what has begun to make a weird tinny rattly noise when I accelerate...?

I can hear it at warmup idle but not at normal idle. that's why I took the headshield off last night. I checked all my bolts coz I thought that might have been it. One of my exhaust manifold bolts was about 6 turns loose, but I'll be buggered if I can get under my car to clamp the sheilding without a hoist

Grab some pliers, and work your way along the edge of the heatsheild where the 2 halves join, give it a crimp and a slight twist every 5-10 cms...

I was able to do this by parking my car halfway up the drive way ramp and reach in from under the side skirts. easy as, took me 5 mins.

Fixed mine until I replaced the cat with a highflow.
