Hi Rob,

Thanks for SMSing the rain warning to me whilst we were on the Otway cruise. I broadcast it over the CB. We missed the rain, well, at least I got home before it started raining (just).

You need to add the Yamaha Superbike World Championships at Phillip Island to your list of events. March 2nd - 4th..

The roads are gonna be pretty busy down this way

I actually would like to do Wilsons Prom again too.  Maybe with that extra bit we did not do last year which is Loch to Wonthaggi, then along the coast between Wonthaggi and Inverloch (in my best Clarkson voice, "some say that bit's like the Great Ocean Road, only on a smaller scale").  I just thought driving along the South Gippsland Highway most of the way a bit uneventful so the diversion through to Wonthaggi would be a welcomed change I think.

Sunday 1 April okay as a date?

Wilsons Prom Cruise - 3 votes (Mr Turbo, Blown BA, EvilDaifu)

Yarra Ranges Cruise - 2 votes (deek, EvilDaifu)

Would love to join up with you guys on this cruise. Will know closer to the time if I'm able to attend (provided it gets voted in). I would've loved to go on the Otways Cruise but it's just too far to travel in 1 day from here.

Anyhoo, I think the road you are referring to as the "mini great ocean road" is the Bunurong Coastal Drive. It's a 14km trek from Inverloch to Cape Patterson and is beautiful. Cape Patterson is tucked in just behind Wonthaggi about 5kms up the road. Instead of turning left at the roundabout in Wonthaggi onto the Bass Hwy, you travel straight through.

I'm on holiday atm and my wife and I are taking a day trip up to Wilsons Prom tomorrow (today now - better get to bed soon). I'll look out for any other landmarks that may be of interest and post back.

:)

Hi Skooby,

If you read this in time, I wouldn't mind you thinking of some open places where 10-20 cars could park for a photo opp along the Bunurong Coastal Drive and surrounding roads between Loch and Wonthaggi.

Thanks :spoton:

I got your msg you left on my phone 'Hi Rob its Gary', and that's about all due to poor reception from your side.

The caves carpark is probably the largest of the lay-away carparks along the route. It's alongside the dinosaur dig (only one of it's kind in Australia) but if there are other visitors there then it's going to be a struggle with so many cars.

I would've stopped and taken a photo but I had a touch of road rage from an earlier incident with a road crew re-sealing the road and wasn't in the mood to stop. This guy told me that when the roadworks sign was on the road he "owned" the road. I politely asked him if it also gave him the right to be an absolute f*ckwit on the road. A few more words were exchanged after my question.. :gooff:

I could easily take another trip down there though because it's only about 45 mins drive for me and it's so relaxing :fool: .

We didn't bother going to the prom and instead settled for lunch in loch and a walk on the beach with the dog.
