Never ventured further north than Gawler West in SA But that's the first I've heard of that dust issue.

I've already ordered my tickets and this will be my 4th year straight at the island.I think it would make an awesome weekend for everyone. To do this we would need to get cracking as accomodation will be quickly snapped up. The plan would be to arrive Friday night or Saturday morning, spend Saturday and Sunday at the track and come home either Sunday night or Monday morning. I'll be leaving Monday morning so I don't have to deal with the after race traffic. What does everyone think?

I have a 3 day corporate ticket (courtesy of a friend that works at the track). I'll ask around town what the bookings are like for the accomodation and get back to you in a few days. It seems that the locals have gone into hibernation with the mini heat wave sweeping the Island. For anyone heading down this way I thought I'd put together a list of police hot spots for the Sth Gippsland/Bass Hwy during events and peak periods..From Melbourne to the Island:1. Between Cranbourne and Tooradin (closer to the Baxter rd roundabout) there is occasionly a small SUV parked well into the emergency lane with a dashboard mounted camera.2. Near the Tooradin airport the coppers love to sit in the median strip amongst the trees; or in the middle turnoff just prior to the airport (mostly at night).3. Lang Lang - This is a big area for them. Usually there is a control car with radar under the turnoff to Korumburra bridge facing the oncoming traffic. He radios to the pursuit car(s) and they pull out from the trees on the side of the road. They are well hidden..4. The Gurdies turnoff (where the new roadworks has just been completed) is another spot. They park on the other side of the road but monitor traffic in both directions. They were having a field day when the roadworks were on because the speed dropped from 100 to 60. They had a permanent speed camera but I'm not sure if it has been removed.5. Grantville - Anderson roundabout (turnoff to PI) is free roaming pursuit cars. You'd have to be blind to miss them because they are using the yellow candy cars.Lang Lang pursuit cars apply on the return too.PI to Melbourne- Other than those listed there is sometimes a car parked in a private road just the other side of Lang Lang servo on the straight part of the highway. He is covered by the pine trees that line the road. Radar..Just outside of Tooradin before the roundabout the speed changes to 90k. Just after the 90k sign there is occasionly the small SUV parked with camera.Hope that helps keep your weekends a bit cheaper..

In Port Campbell people can either have lunch/ afternoon snack & head back either cut across to Camperdown & then straight down the Princess fwy or head back the way the came.b)Finish the Otway ranges then head the other way down the great ocean road towards Lawn. The Second Idea is to head to the two headed country, we could load cars on the Spirit of Tasmania on a Friday morning (9am), and then we would land in Tassie Friday afternoon (7pm). Find a good place to eat and call it a night. Here’s the kicker: We have two optionsa) Saturday morning we can start a trip around Tassie making sure we catch up with the tassie guys, I was thinking we could stop at Hobart for the night Saturday night. Sunday we can finish the Journey & either catch the boat back Sunday night or catch the boat back Monday morning.b) Saturday morning we could start / complete all the road sections of the Targa Tasmania. I’m not sure of the speed limits during the normal year but the roads are very windy.I was thinking stay in Hobart on the Saturday night and either finish the course & catch the boat home Sunday night. We were thinking maybe Jan/Feb???Any thoughts???Sorry for the spelling in advance

I reckon based on other ideas put forward previously in VIC Cruise Chat that there would be some others seriously interested in your proposals. I am.I like the Otways run for mid Feb maybe (I'm personally not good for Jan). I like the idea of heading out to Colac then down the windy bits, doing the tree top walk and then heading home via Great Ocean Road (sun will be behind us which is always convenient). What about March VIC Labour day long weekend for the Tassie run. That way we may be able to do both the Targa circuit and the round the island cruise?Any other takers for those dates and routes suggestions?
