Surely the EPA does not approve of non complying cars running around that will only pass with a re tune. If this is how it works then it's some sort of loophole.

that's about the only loop hole we have that's in our favor !! still inconvenient unless you have a fancy flasher thingo lol.

This is the first car I have done as a sleeper and using mostly stock parts I still get worried if I get canaried for something stupid just annoying to go get a rwc and goto vicroads some sh*t you can live without, also always happens at most annoying times.

Emission testing through the authorised lab is something like $8000 a time, this cost would have to be factored into "x" amount of product, many people already consider Nizpro gear expensive and will not use it and turn to cheaper product, but if they need to be tested at any stage it would end up costing them more.

If made emission complient, you would not be able to change it an anyway, including tune otherwise it would not meet the tested standards.

The tune also has to be emission complient, you do not just bolt on approved gear and are legal.

Nizpro's approval on BA/F was done using a standard exhaust, Possum can step in and clear that up if incorrect, I think their FG testing used their own exhaust but with a Flapper on the tailpipe (which we are still waiting on for Bels G6ET, maybe Possum can chase that one for me also)

Having a peice of paper may not stop you from going to be tested, but having it may mean the difference between having to return the car back to stock or not to be tested

here's a car we were involved in

I agree but technically you could run a process west or plazmaman or whatever brand intercooler and whatever tune provided it passed emissions the only reason people dont have a crack at passing is the cost involved if it fails and have to go back for a retest.

I really dont think it is as stringent as people think my old workshop got afew v8's through with sizeable cams 5.7's in the 230 degree range and passed emission testing so if they can pass you would think an xr6 would be able to abit easier.

Im surprised people like process west or plazaman dont chip in with any workshop to go halves in getting their kit tested the workshop gets an emission compliant kit (tune) and also the manufacturer gets an epa compliant kit that they can advertise.

Everyone wins including the customers who dont have to get hassled by the police for wanting abit more performance and get scared evertime their is a blitz on.

Sounds good to me, maybe in the future when I possibly go for an FG model I will still take it to Pitlane but fit the Nizpro goodies. I wasnt sure if we had to actually take it to Nizpro to have it passable.

Wouldn't most of the emission have to do with the cat/exhaust and not the intake?

Its anything that changes the emissions from the factory standard, especially in Victoria (The nanny state)...if you sneeze the wrong way you get epa'd

emissions take into account every thing that comes from the car, that's why a lab test which is required to meet standards do bag tests, every vapour that comes from the car needs to meet standards, not just a sniff test of exhaust fumes that are done at other facilities.
