Gday all. Just thought id ask anyone out there with a ute some questions. My mates just bought a red 2004 XT ute. Hes already lowered it, chucked on a set of rims and it came with a ford hard cover, looks nice. (still...it aint no xr6t!) Went to ford to get the plastic covers so he could get rid of the ugly black tonnea cover plugs down each side, 30 buck no dramas. Went to a panel beater, asked him to paint and install. Also while he was at it, asked to color code the black strips along each side and the mirrrors, XR style. Panel beater reckons that to do it he would have to repaint the sides of the tray because the black plastic clips will leave marks on the paintwork. Also have to buy new mirrors and strips, because he cant remove without destroying them. Quoted 2 G's. Im pretty sure the mirror covers come of without needing new ones?! Anyone know if his story is true? Because I walked out quickly....

And also, anybody know if there is a foglight option for XT? Im sure ive seen XT's with small rectangular ones, like the cornering lamps on a Ghia? Local ford dealer says im seeing things...

My ute came with the black plugs, & Ford removed them when they put on the hardcover with the colour coded plugs. There are no marks or swirls on the paint work, I just think you have to carefull removing the original plugs to not dint or flare the sheet metal holes. Have you asked your Ford dealer to do this? , they'd have the right tools & experience, as they do them all the time.

LUGS ARE EASY TO REMOVE DID IT TO MY T IN A COUPLE OF HOURS.

ALL YOU NEED IS:-

A CHAIR

SHARP DRILL BITS

ROLL OF MASKING TAPE

PAIR OF PLIERS TO STOP LUGS FROM TURNING WHEN DRILLING OUT

A VACUUM CLEANER TO SUCK UP THE BACK OF THE POP RIVETS OUT OF THE TAIL GATE

Ford did all mine, removed, painted and installed for $200, plus $1700 for the hard cover :crybaby: But being on a black car, I got swirls around the tabs, but the hard cover isn't any better. Black paint on Fibregalss :spoton:

Yeah I did the black plastic lugs myself too. I painted them phantom cause I have some spray paint for them.

I lost one though and I couldn't be bothered getting the spray gun out for 1 plastic plug so I just painted it with the little bottle of touch up paint from Ford and I'll be stuffed if I can notice the difference.
