The extra pin provides a variable resistant path to ground as the main power is supplied from the circuit board main power. The extra pin is controlled by the dash light control (so it also dims when you dim your dash lights).

cobrav8 Member 1,969 Member For: 20y 14d Gender: Male Location: New Zealand Posted 18/04/05 04:17 AM Share Posted 18/04/05 04:17 AM Have a listen to this story....I have a Mk2 XR6T and should have had the lights from the start, however....I specified leather seats for my car, and they forgot to deliver them, so... they offered me the luxury pack seats at no extra charge as they had some in stock, and could swap them over, sounds good so far?Well... the car that they took the luxury seats from somehow ended up with Mk1 doorpanels, without lighted switches, and they were a plain black vinyl, not the ones I was suppose to get with the luxury seats. So... I ended up with the wrong ones swapped in. So.. back again to get the right ones. They sourced the right door trims and replaced them - but left the unlit switches, which I finally noticed (first time I drove at night) later that week.So.... back to Ford to get them working. They put new switches in, but rang to say that the back ones didnt light up - was I expecting them to. Now to be honest, I wasnt sure - I had seen you guys making your back ones work, but didnt know if standard they had them - so I said I didnt know - but assumed they would.Anyway - so I turn up to collect the car - get all sorts of stories like the official word from Ford was that they no longer light the back switches on XR mk2s, they had several technicians spending hours trying to make them work, and couldnt do it short of running new power wires. To which - I flicked the kiddy switch off - and hey presto - the lights worked!Shows a little incompetence maybe? Dont trust everything you are told! I dont trust a lot of things I hear, and its often too hard to explain to them what is actually right and often not worth it.
cobrav8 Member 1,969 Member For: 20y 14d Gender: Male Location: New Zealand Posted 18/04/05 05:16 AM Share Posted 18/04/05 05:16 AM I must admit - earlier on in the saga they gave me a free momo steering wheel for the mucking about - not much different from standard - just leather instead of leatherette - but it was free!Happy with the car - but I was pretty pissed off with all the mucking about - over something as silly as doortrims!
