I thought it was along the same lines as richdave - 3km tolerance which is deducted from your total speed ...... hence, you end up with a speeding fine of 61km in a 60 zone for doing 4kms over the limit - not 1km (still sucks though).

I always thought that once you went over 100km per hour there was a 10% tolerance (ie 110 would be ok). Obviously this is not the case after reading this thread (thanks guys!). Perhaps someone could answer this one: Can you be booked for flashing your lights to warn oncoming traffic of a speed camera????

Saying that, it is more common these days to get a warning when the car in front slams on thier brakes ... anyone actually seen a speed camera CAUSE an accident???!!!

I agree that the cops should be fixing some the other problems on the roads - here a couple of my 'pet hates' ..... 1) Cars and/or trucks going slow in the right hand lane  and 2) cars that blow smoke - get a frigin service and tune up!!

Victorian police suck. Queensland police only go that harsh over easter, christmas and new years, otherwise it is 10%.

You've given me an idea Charlie.

l wonder how long l would have to spend in jail if l refused to pay. If l could go down and spend 4 hours one arvo in the local cop shop reading books then it would be my little way of saying get rooted Bracks.

No doubt they have changed the laws so you also lose your licence, get 12 demerit points instead of 1 and also gain a criminal record  Anyone know anything on this?

Was the case 4 or 5 years ago!... But as usual people were taking advantage of the idea!..Ie:.. lumping all their parking tickets, fines etc together & spending the weekend in Jail!... (A taxi driver mate of mine did it, saved himself $1600 for 2 peaceful & well fed days in Moonee ponds lockup)... Since then the law has stopped this practice!

About 10 years ago I was traveling with my Mum on the Western Highway just this side of Ballarat and she was flashing oncomming traffic to warn of a radar setup when an unmarked car does a u-turn and pulls us over.

He asked her why she was flashing her lights and told her that he could book her for reckless driving because she was distracting on coming traffic and could cause an accident. She said she had dropped her cigarette and had knocked the high beam stalk as she was trying to pick it up. I still can't believe she got off.

I believe that tolerances only refer to the point at which you will be fined. So if there's a 3kmh tolerance, you won't get booked at 63kmh, but at 64kmh you will be booked for doing 4kmh over the limit.

I used to think that it was illegal to flash your headlights to warn of radars/laser guns. But they now broadcast speed camera locations on tv and radio (with the blessing of the police) so I don't see why the police should mind if you warn other motorists.

In WA they are slowly tightening up on the tollerences (so they can make more money of course). Per head of population and the size of the place our roads are very good. Got pinged outside Baladonia comming back from SA (125kph, state limit 110kph) the cop was actually opolagetic and said he recons new cars (in my EL XR6) can safely do 130 but what bloody pollie or nanny minded public servant is going to listen  .

Read the other day that in Hawaii the cops were hiding speed cameras in pizza delivery vans etc parked on the side of the road. The people trashed em and the civil disobediance was that bad the state govt took them off the roads. :D

Canada has reduced the number of speed cameras as they have proven they do nothing to reduce the road toll. They found that rewarding good drivers actually had a big impact in reducing the road toll.

Hawkie said Australia should be the clever country HA.. not while we have self serving beaurocrats in the government.

Viva la revolution

This is what I originally meant in my first post. get booked for 4 KPH over, but not 3. IE: 3KPH tolerance.

You reckon speed cameras are being tripod mounted now mondie? that's the one thing I liked about victorian roads, is that you can see the speed cameras as opposed to WA where they are usually on a tripod in a tree (a multinova).

Yep, tripod mounted. l have only seen it twice at the same spot and not anywhere else. Contract cop sits under a shady tree sipping tea while the camera buzzes away. This may even have been how l was booked as its always fairly obvious when there is a late model car with tinted windows sitting on the side of the road. However the locals must have been missing their quotas and now have resorted to using 10yr old 4WD's and cars.

Tossers.

Always have been using 10 yr old 4WD's in our area.

In the words of John Cleese (Life of Brian when talking about the JPF)........WANKERS!!!!!!!!
