So much for the 10% Speed Tolerance Its actually 3KPH, not 3% That means that in Vic, you get pinged for 63 in a 60, 83 in an 80 and 103 in a 100 zone. There used to be a 10% tolerance Australia wide I understand, but it was an unwritten law. That was sweet because technically, you could do 110 in a 100 zone and get away with it.One good thing about Victoria is that the speed cameras are in cars (and theres only one in the enitre area where I live in the sticks, so I know it!!!), but in WA, they are on tripods, and are impossible to see untill you are ontop of them.Ive lived in NSW (Not driven), WA and Victoria, and I much prefer the speed cameras in Victoria, just not the 3KPH rule Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/1678-got-a-speeding-fine-today/page/2/#findComment-17896 Share on other sites
Guest Phantom Guests Posted 17/04/03 06:25 AM Share Posted 17/04/03 06:25 AM I would also just like to add that if they are fair dinkum about stopping people speeding in dangerous areas why do they have cameras in areas that trap people driving at safe speeds but over the limit. An example is on the edge of towns where you are still slowing down or sections that chage from 110 to 80 then back to 110 for no apparent reason. The last place I got nabbed was a straight 2 lane road in Lane Cove(Centennial Avenue) doing 70 in a 60. Anyone who knows the road would know 70 is not dangerous. If they want to prevent accidents why not put the camera in a single lane twisting road in the same area where 70 might be dangerous. In Mondies case if they booked him at 106kph the actual reading was probably 109kph then the 3kph tolerance was deducted.Having said that, I am with you all the way, these SILLY speed limits and tight tolerances are NOTHING more that a tax by another means.FWIW - while in the US most folks drove at least 10MPH over the limit! I was in a car that actually passed a radar setup at over 10MPH above the limit...no reaction. It would be interesting to compare the road toll per capita between the US and Australia. The cops/contractors around here have started to get tricky. l have seen a camera tripod mounted a few times, hidden behind trees. Now they have also moved away from mounting the cameras in new cars to using 10 yr old utes and 4WDs. Great stuff, the roads are so much safer now Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/1678-got-a-speeding-fine-today/page/2/#findComment-17917 Share on other sites
Guest cralli Guests Posted 17/04/03 02:13 PM Share Posted 17/04/03 02:13 PM Be interesting to know if any of these fines that are below 10% over the limit are legal or not. Speedometers in vehicles are subject to ADR's and I believe that the ADR allows a 10% error margin! Doesn't federal legislation override state when they conflict. Personally my last two were both for 15-30kph over so there's 6 points gone...but they were both on my bike! :D Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/1678-got-a-speeding-fine-today/page/2/#findComment-17962 Share on other sites

Superoo Member 340 Member For: 22y 6m 23d Gender: Male Posted 17/04/03 03:08 PM Share Posted 17/04/03 03:08 PM These speeding fines are becoming ridiculous. When do the results of the study that determine how many accidents have been caused by paranoid victorians ramming someone because of too many speedo checks get released?? I've posted previously regarding fixed speed camera operations and have some interesting additions:1) I wanted to know what the legal requirements were as far as signage goes in areas where fixed speed cameras were installed. Let's not forget that the objective of these laws is to remind people to slow down....not to raise revenue . "Safety Camera" signs are present on the Western ring road and on the Monash freeway (and to be honest, drivers have slowed down) but not on the eastern freeway which supposedly has them installed. I rang Vicroads and was put through to their legal department. So do they need to be signed? Vicroads legal department don't know! Got told to call the police and ask.2) Does anyone know if they legally require signage for fixed permanent cameras?3) If not, can we legally find out where they are?4) If not, how is this anything BUT a new TAX? We get reminded to slow down after paying how much?5) Has anyone in VIC land ever received a speeding fine on the Eastern freeway from one of these alleged cameras? If l could go down and spend 4 hours one arvo in the local cop shop reading books then it would be my little way of saying get rooted Bracks. No doubt they have changed the laws so you also lose your licence, get 12 demerit points instead of 1 and also gain a criminal record Anyone know anything on this?
