:angry::angry:

Got a speeding fine in the mail today, 106 in a 100 zone. What a bloody joke.

l am sick of this revenue raising disguised as road safety, its out of control. If l was doing 110 then ok, but 6 over is nothing. l wonder how many cars l passed that day that were unroadworthy, or being driven by unlicesed drivers, not registered etc etc.

So who else has been caught out on such ridiculously intolerant limits? Can anyone better 6%?

The old apprentice at the workshop I used to get my mods done at once told me about getting done for 61 in a 60 zone. I didnt believe him, till he bought in the fine and showed me.

Over here in SA we've just gone to 50km/ph speed zones around housing estates etc and I've got no problem with that. Out in the country however, the limit should be more like 130 - 140km/ph. We just need to get some of the sh*t cars of the road and have better driver training. The hardest thing nowdays to do in your logbook when getting your licence is hill starts and parallel parking! How many deaths are going to be caused doing these??? When I got my licence not that long ago I wasn't even shown how to overtake! Thank goodness my Pop had a bit of spare time and tought me how to drive from about the age of 14. Anyway.....

I've got a few cops in my footy team and they reckon that they can book you at any speed over the limit, there's just an allowance of 9km (in SA) for dodgy speedos etc. They don't have to give you this allowance though if they don't want to.

 That's a bit rude?!?!?!?!?! Sorry to hear about that Mondie.

Same for kryzak260, 3%, jeez!!!

Full on!!! So much for the 10% Speed Tolerance, well we had that up here in Queensland with the speed camera/radar traps.

I hope I can still get away with 121kmh in a 110 zone :D Going to the coast tomorrow.

Guys, I share your frustration, but how are we going to get the politicians to listen?

Over here in the west we are constantly being hammered with "Speed Kills", and yes based on pure physics they are right! Why dont we all drive at 10 kph, or maybe 5 kph, then nobody will get hurt!!!

I'm originally from Europe, and have done a lot of km's on european freeways, much of which was at 160 - 200 km/h - AND I DON'T THINK I'M DEAD YET (my wife may dissagree  )

I can tell you why the governments do not do anythin about di*khead drivers, unroadworthy and polluting cars etc., it's becaust it would involve the police actually doing some work on the roads, and not just getting civilians to man the golden camera revenue raisers.

I see a lot of cars every day where lights are not working, seatbelts are not worn, corrosion is rampant, smoke is pouring from the exhaust and the person is zig-zagging through traffic, and running red lights.

Put on top of this, inattention and lack of concentration, which is the cause of many accidents in the country here.

Education and change of driver attitude is needed, and no amount of speed cameras are going to achieve this.

I would also suggest that the state of many roads are to blame for accidents, and with congestion as bad as it is a some times of the day, this area has not been keeping up with demand.

It is of course easier to just place a camera on the side of the road, and rake in the cash, than it is to deal with the complexities that make traffic safety, and the police and politicians are failing in addressing this. So far this year I think we are 9 up on fatalities compared to last year, and this despite the introduction of 50 kmh in the city.

When will somebody get charged with manslaughter because they were looking at the speedo rather than the road, out of fear of going too fast?

Are we all to cronically drive 10 kph under the speed limit? Imagine what that would do to traffic flows!

Back to my question, I would like to know how we get politicians to listen, cause they sure aren't at the moment!!

"puts down megaphone"

Thankfully here in Tas speeding tolerance levels haven’t reached the same stupid proportions that they have in Victoria. In Tassie you can get away with doing 10ks over the limit before you are booked. Which is just how it should be, otherwise how on earth can you safely overtake?!

Unfortauntely we have the highest ratio of speed cameras per cars on the road than any other state, which means they are everywhere

ninka,

Well said, well said indeed. You may have to stay frustrated me's thinks. Politicians listen? We may only see that happen on a story appearing on "Beyond Belief or a re-run of "Ripley's Believe it or not".

There really needs to be a lot of road works carried out up here. Now in the past year or so they have been going crazy with roadworks but the problem is they are poorly targeting the areas that DON'T NEED ROADWORKS!!!! With the odd exception. The inner city bypass, which is kinda cool. The new double lane road replacing the old Lytton Road exit off the Gateway Arterial has solved a LOT of peak hour trouble. You still have the western suburb peak hour BS. I'm glad I'm travelling to Ipswich, not leaving from in the mornings. The carnage you see on that major road is incredible. It is literally a car park for MILES!!!! Glad I'm going the opposite way each morning/afternoon.

How true this is.

Most propaganda we hear from the government is that 40% of accidents are caused by speed - and this is true.

What they dont say is that 96% of these accidents actually occure BELOW the speed limit. (I.e. speed was still a factor but the cars wern't speeding)

What that means is that only 1.6% (4% of the 40%) of accidents actually are the result of speeding.....(not speed but speeding)

So why are having so many speed cameras going to reduce road tolls.. simple... they wont, but they will make a lot of money, and the simple minded will think its all for their own good.
