If it aint broke, dont fix it.

I guess anything that ford bring out will obviously affect any modified cars because they dont want ppl changing them. I wonder if modifying a re-flashed ECU will have the same problems, or will they be overridden?
Zeke zeke Member 792 Member For: 21y 4m 19d Location: Adelaide Posted 04/04/05 07:07 AM Share Posted 04/04/05 07:07 AM I took my car into the dealer a couple of weeks ago for an unrelated matter that could be done while I waited. They told me "BTW, we have to reflash your computer". I asked the shop foreman about it and he told me that it's designed to fix the "overboost" problem but it does reduce the boost levels and the power. He went along with my "if it's not broke, don't fix it" stance. But, I think they had to mark my car on their computer as having been reflashed. Thanks to this forum, I avoided my car being emasculated! I'm very grateful, but I feel for those who got caught in this trap....especially to the extent of thinking of replacing the computers etc, like Beauies is. Gee, I'd be pissed off by that!Probably worth making sure your dealer knows what you want in regards to this....even if it means reminding them at each service. They're pretty competitive and they know you can go elsewhere if they don't keep you happy.
Guest mercurysteve Guests Posted 04/04/05 07:22 AM Share Posted 04/04/05 07:22 AM Farkin hell, these read like a bunch of horror stories to me. I'm not going near a Ford dealer unless I really have to for warranty reasons (so hopefully never). That said, if I was beauies, I would ring the HPF (if you are in Melb) and tell em what's happened and they might be willing to let flash tune your car to prove it will work and if your happy, then you pay for it and if it's not working well, then they remove the tune and wipe the memory of their flasher and no harm done, maybe you pay for their time. At least you will know for certain. My feelings are that they could sort this out for you without any drama. Rob is a good bloke and is very helpful, so give it a tryCheers and good luck with it

Seems just as, if not more, powerful. They fixed that damn rear suspension squeek too !
ZAP No boost, no bottle, just my foot on the throttle! Lifetime Members 7,935 Member For: 20y 8m 26d Gender: Male Location: Sydney Posted 04/04/05 07:27 AM Share Posted 04/04/05 07:27 AM I wonder if after this new "latest" flash our cars still make 240kw.You couyld have a case of false advertising
Guest mercurysteve Guests Posted 04/04/05 07:36 AM Share Posted 04/04/05 07:36 AM more a case of they make 245-255 now, just marketed lower to "help" GT sales along. So they could drop it a few kw's and still be quite legal. If you had a good stockie that pulled 200kw at the wheels Vs some I've heard of pulling only 175plus, then you would notice a re-flash that say pulled it "back into line" towards 185rwkw if you understand my point.Comon theory is 17-19% drivetrain loss from motor to rear wheels on a manual and around 21-24% with an auto. Example, my stock auto made 203rwkw (allowing 22% loss from motor as it's an auto) then my car was really 260 engine kw.Make sense?
Paranormal Member 469 Member For: 21y 2m 16d Location: Brissy Posted 04/04/05 07:41 AM Share Posted 04/04/05 07:41 AM I unfortunatly had mine reflashed and with the fairmont boost guage noticed it now peaks at 5psi instead of 6 power also seams down more than enough for the GF to notice. Havent had it dynoed yet but if she can notice its definatly down on power. I have a unichip and boost controller, injectors on the way but havent installed em yet. I was hoping newly installed unichip custom tune etc would override this ford flash.Any experiences with unichip and the overboost flash guys? Also wasnt there a post couple months back about the overboost flash with PDF docs from ford detailing the work order which also involved moving a hose, possibly a vucum hose, could this have anything to do with it?Thanks Guys
beauies Member 209 Member For: 21y 1m 18d Gender: Male Location: sydney Posted 04/04/05 11:15 AM Share Posted 04/04/05 11:15 AM So far I don't think this problem affects anybody with a basically stock XR6T. Most of the problems seem to be with cars making any thing over 240rwkws.So has anybody out there got details on how if they lost major power after a reflash they got it back through another tune because my tuner in sydney can't find a fix yet.Funny thing is I think after the update the fn thing is idling better but who gives a sh*t if you cant now toast a 300kw Expensive Daewoo by sh*t loads.
