Ba Audio Systems

Is anyone else annoyed that they cannot put an aftermaket stereo into their XR6 T??? I ended up shelling out for the premium audio and it's okay, but I would have much rather put an aftermaket system in. My other car is a KF Laser which I use as a runabout, and the audio system I have in that puts the one in my turbo to shame.

What do other people think about this??? :hmmm:

Yeah, I agree that this is a bit of a bugger. But it's only the deck that cannot be changed. You can still change the speakers, amp & sub. So it's not all bad.

Not to mention the fact that I keep turning the stereo down so that I can hear the beautiful sound of the engine & exhaust! :D

I drive the car to drive the car as opposed to listening to the stereo - so if I get reasonably good quality soud from the stereo that is a bonus - the sound system in the BA is as good as 95% of customers would require - it certainly is more than good enough for me.

You can run a separate head unit into the system if you want - and also change speakers and amp so I don't see much problem for those who want to upgrade. If you put in a new head unit you might lose the tissue holder - not a big deal if better sound is that important to you.

SaggerLee,

I read on FF that replacing the std speakers made a huge difference. There is some conjecture over whether the Premium head unit has more power than the std one. I rang and (somehow) got through to the audio design engineer at Ford and he told me that all head units (std, prestige, premium) are 4 X 25w (forgot to ask if this was RMS but I doubt it). The speakers are all 25w max (how pissweak), std gets 'dual cone (!) and premium gets 2 ways (wow).

It makes me laugh that they promote the premium system as having 11 speakers 'cos they count the 2 voice coils in the 2 ways as two seperate speakers - what a joke!

The guy on FF replaced the std speakers with JVC 5x7's and reckons it sounds great.

I drive the car to drive the car too but if I'm stuck in traffic I want to listen to music. I don't believe the quality of either system is good enough for a 50 grand car.

I've yet to get my XR6T ute, but it will BE soon!. I have an opportunity now for a deal on upgrading my speakers.

I have the standard sound system coming (4 speakers). I know that two of them will be 5x7. Anyone know what size and where the other two are in the ute?

PS. A good source for audio equipment and information is a US company called Cruthfield. Thier web site is very good and a wide range of products and inforamtion, although they don't cater for Australian cars of course.

The two rear speakers in the ute are in the side scuttles behind the seats. They are a good size but there is heaps of room for much larger. The originals are also not mounted very securely, being fixed on just three sides to a thin metal backing, and hanging out in the breeze on the fourth corner. If you wanted good sound in your ute I'd imagine it would be very easy to put a 6x9 in a strong wooden frame/box in the space.
