Anyone tried the any Bridgestone tyres or Dunlop FM901 in 17 inch by any chance ???

The Dunlop FM901 won a tyre test in Jan 03 edition of Motor. They were tested in 235/45R17 on a BA XR6 NA.

Results were:

1. Dunlop FM901

2. Pirelli P Zero Nero

3. Bridgestone S-03

4. Goodyear F1 GS-D3

5. Firestone SZ50

6. Hankook K104

7. Michelin Pilot Preceda

8. BF Goodrich Profiler G

9. Avon ZZ3

10. Toyo TPG

11. Simex SM9300

12. Kumho Ecsta Supra 712

13. Federal 589

The Dunlop FM901 is no longer available. According to the Dunlop website it was replaced by the Direzza DZ101, which interestingly finished down in 8th position in the recent tyre test in the May 05 issue of Wheels.

I don't think you can still buy the FM901s?? Think they've been replaced but SP3000a and SP9000??

EDIT: Oops, sorry, just read the bottom of the quote, will crawl back into my hole, where's the "Bu66er I just want to delete my post" button?

I now have the Maxxis on my car in 18". Better riding than the Dunlop and quieter too which is nice. They struggle for traction though

I am interested to know more about these tyres as I am considering them when I need new tyres in a few months time.

When you say they struggle for traction, are you implying that with the power of a T, any tyre would struggle for traction :spoton:, or do you genuinely believe these tyres do struggle for traction, and if so, do you mean wet, dry, braking, take off, etc.

I am also interested to know where they are made?

Thanks.

The Michelins are the best I have ever had. They are not cheap, but the grip is race level. The Pilot Sport 2's are very expensive but they are the same as they use in Targa.

On the upside I got 45K out of the last set....Just waiting on a new set now, on the docks today.

You got 45k out of a set of PS2's? Wow

I barely get 30k out of a set of Preceda's, that's with a hell of lot of highway driving.

I can't wait to get some PS2's

I suspect they struggle for traction now due to a slight increase in power :pinch: but otherwise I am pretty happy with them. I should go get the ratings off them so Cro can tell me if they are up to it or not :pinch:

Just got some Goodyear Revspec RS02 23545r17's for the XR. Went through the original dunlops in just over 20,000  .

The Revspec's won the Wheels tyre comp for a very good reason. Whole car feels alot more stable esp. cornering. Very impressed. Set me back around $340 a corner off memory. Hope they last a little longer then the others but I doublt it.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

that's the same rating my wife's tyres have on her 14" rim (Yokohama A539) :spoton:

Very good for her car, but it's only a 1.6L Mazda Astina Auto.

Purely going by the ratings those tyres are a hell of a lot worse than the Standard Dunlop SP3000s (Treadwear 240, Traction A), and the SP9000s (Treadwear 280, Traction AA).

The harder the compound, the less sticky the tyre.
