There is a thread on ls1 about hair spray on number plates and its ability to confuse speed cameras so it cant read the characters. I have heard of this before but unsure if it was true.

Anyone care to shed a little light onto this

There's nothing on Snopes about hairspray but I've always been under the impression that it was just an urban myth. Thought the same about Photoblocker too, might be like my Pink Elephant Repellant, haven't seen one in years...

You could try posting the question on the Mythbusters messageboard, someone there might know or suggest it to Mythbusters to try out on a future episode.

I remember Hot or Fast(???) fours did a test on all the different methods a few years back, and the only thing they found worked was an actual plate frame/cover you could buy specifically designed to stop your plate being photographed...

They were from Vic or SA from memory.
