What sort of problems do you see with an XT with 220kw Ian?
HSE2 Member 322 Member For: 22y 2m 4d Location: Tasmania Posted 14/02/04 09:28 PM Share Posted 14/02/04 09:28 PM Because it is the base line product and it has to conform to intentions that don't always include handling and performance as a high priority, combined with the fact that tyre size and type are also compromised because of the target budget of the consumer.Essentially it would be like releasing a series 3 Au Xr8 in terms of performance but its ability to stop and turn will be compromised because the audience has 20k less to go shopping with.Given time technology and price allow base cars to improve, but personally a bigger problem in any scare is in the bottom end of cars that have high torque and compromised integrity. When the LS1 first came out, the option was available in the Exec model. SS levels of power in a car that simply couldn't handle it. At some stage FE2 suspension was made mandatory and a recommendation to fit better tyres made. Eventually the V8 option for the Exec was dropped. It is now called the SV8 and combines the essential elements of the SS. It detracts luxury, not the car control package of the SS. It is now a consistent approach to power performance. It is telling people if you want that power these are the features that must be included. Yes it is a political stance not always based on facts, butt he local industry can’t ignore world standards of performance. As an industry there are too many high output cars imported into this country. A supercar scare basically can't repeat as it did 30 years ago but a version of it can, if the local market ignore key engineering facets.

It is not a standard XT setup. Edited 15/02/04 06:38 AM by Venom XR6
HSE2 Member 322 Member For: 22y 2m 4d Location: Tasmania Posted 15/02/04 08:46 AM Share Posted 15/02/04 08:46 AM that's right the V8, option in the XT is not standard. Doesn't cost base price either. We are talking model progression where the base package is concerned. No options just the base car and from any local manufacturer. The LS1 example is one which shows how a manufacturer has reacted to dealership concerns over the safety of said package. Ford, had this package from day one with the V8 option.
