I don't believe the power in terms of an outright number Having said that I have a bigger problem with an XT with 220 kws than I do with a GTP with 330.

What sort of problems do you see with an XT with 220kw Ian?

Because it is the base line product and it has to conform to intentions that don't always include handling and performance as a high priority, combined with the fact that tyre size and type are also compromised because of the target budget of the consumer.

Essentially it would be like releasing a series 3 Au Xr8 in terms of performance but its ability to stop and turn will be compromised because the audience has 20k less to go shopping with.

Given time technology and price allow base cars to improve, but personally a bigger problem in any scare is in the bottom end of cars that have high torque and compromised integrity.

When the LS1 first came out, the option was available in the Exec model. SS levels of power in a car that simply couldn't handle it. At some stage FE2 suspension was made mandatory and a recommendation to fit better tyres made. Eventually the V8 option for the Exec was dropped. It is now called the SV8 and combines the essential elements of the SS. It detracts luxury, not the car control package of the SS. It is now a consistent approach to power performance. It is telling people if you want that power these are the features that must be included. Yes it is a political stance not always based on facts, butt he local industry can’t ignore world standards of performance. As an industry there are too many high output cars imported into this country. A supercar scare basically can't repeat as it did 30 years ago but a version of it can, if the local market ignore key engineering facets.

that's right the V8, option in the XT is not standard. Doesn't cost base price either. We are talking model progression where the base package is concerned. No options just the base car and from any local manufacturer.

The LS1 example is one which shows how a manufacturer has reacted to dealership concerns over the safety of said package. Ford, had this package from day one with the V8 option.

Media is easily fixed...

Engine is rated at 299kw but might put out a bit more

Vehicle is speed limited to 160km/h but this is set by a removeable link (for racing only)

The standard car is NEVER officially tested in public by FPV and performance figures are NEVER published.

Media have nothing to go on.....

So how then does the manufacturer sell it? Who is going to buy an unadvertised product?

BTW Ian, great to see you back. I've been enjoying reading your posts as always

to make a new gtho uve gotta look at the last of them. heres wat I think. phase 3 has 4doors... so should ba. must be a v8... and I dont see why it couldnt be NA... not that hard to get 400kW outa 5.4l with some proper development. and with vvt tech and mpfi theres no need 4 a really lumpy idle. must have twin exhausts. ba supercar style bodykit without the disgusting rear wing they have... gt style wing looks good. either xb style scoops or a engine mounted scoop in place of the bulge. leave the interior fairmont/xr6t spec.. if im spending 100g+ on a car I want a STEREO and leccy windows. lose some weight with lightweight panels/ wheels / and sound deadening(cos u want to hear the beautiful v8) and u got urself a real hsv killer and a worthy successor. Ford Falcon BA GT-HO Phase V
