Not sure what you mean by shudder, but I hear a "click, click, click sound either half-to full lock turn either way at low speeds. Just clicks every time.

Any idea anyone? :spoton:

I had the annoying "click click" noise when turning at low speed......

I believe it is a known problem with Ford.... I read on another thread here that it was due to a poor quality bearing on the base of the steering column, and Ford was replacing the steering column to rectify the issue.

On mine, I was told that all that was necessary was tightening the steering rack ??? Whether it was the mounts, or an adjustment taking up endplay? Not too sure.

The problem has gone away though.... No more clicking.

There is another issue I am sensing though, and it was just begining to show before the clicking issue was rectified. At idle, the steering becomes very hard too turn... feels like the power steering pump is NOT functioning correctly.

It is intermittent too... sometimes it feels OK, other times it is quite stiff to turn?

Car is going back in tomorrow for some followup work.

Other than that, car has been fantastic. Still enjoy jumping in every opportunity I get.

cheers

tom

The "shudder" at low speed whilst turning is a common problem. It is caused by air in the power steering hose. Ford had no fix a couple of months ago other than doing figure eights to bleed the air out. This works for a short period of time then the problem returns. I've got mine in for the 45k service in a couple of weeks and will be asking if they have a fix for it yet. :nono:

Sounds like Ford really stryggle to come up with the fixes when the problem arises and is consistent. Should be much better than that as a moto Co. :nono:

You may just have an air lock in your steering lines and need to bleed them. Easiest way is just to go find a nice piece of soft grass (not your own front lawn, use your neighbours or somebody else you hate), put the front wheels on it and while parked, turn the steering lock to lock several times. This should do the trick. Hope it helps.

I had the low speed steering shudder in mine and according to the dealer, they first bleed the power steering system and do some slow figure eights and mentioned above. If this doesn't solve the issue, the power steering hose is then replaced. Hope that helps.

Turtle33 - try the search function as there is a relative wealth of info on steering judder which is a documented issue for which there are a series of fixes recorded in a Ford TSB. Mine had it, notably when hot and slow speed turns to the left. The Ford service team followed the TSB and indeed by going through the entire TSB and ultimately doing a hose change they have fully and effectively addressed that issue. Concerning valve springs there is a dollop of folk-lore about that one. There were a few vehicles that have claimed to have had valve spring issues which can become more eveident at higher stages of tune and boost. There is no generic problem with the valve springs other than their consistency that had to be addressed. I run APS Phase II with no issues arising from the standard springs and my APS tuner has yet to encounter any issues amongst the MANY they have modified. Nevertheless it sure has been a good money spinner for some of the 'tuners' out there. If you are going to run high boost pressures - above 10psi it may be worth copnsidering, but get rid of the exhaust back pressure first with a decent flowing system and you may never require them to be changed.

thanks for the replies, the steering judder was present when I first picked up the car (17k's) now at 1300k's and still there. Re the valve springs, I will only be looking for about 300 odd fwkws max so should have no issue withe springs.
