Met someone today through work with a 1994 Australian delivered Toyota Celica GT4. We spoke a bit about cars, but unfortunately she didn't know too much about mechanics or the performance of the car other than "it's fast".

I may get a chance to take it for a drive in the next couple of days, or at least have a little play out in the open road against my ute. I was wondering what I could expect out of this thing? It's difficult to find anything on the net about performance stats. :o

I know it has a non-standard exhaust (rather loud sounding). Still has the top mount cooler, but when I asked about boost level she said she thought it might be "20" (she was genuinely unsure). What boost and power do they make standard? Some info says 275hp some says less - surely they don't run much more than 12-14psi stocko?

I joked today and said we should have a race - funny thing is though that her father owns and club races a ferriari - maybe he's tinkered with it and it does run 20 pounds?????? :spoton: The 10psi map may not be enough :ermm:

Toyota fans - I need info!!!!

I just had a look on redbook and it says that it has a 2l turbo engine putting out 178kw and weighing 1400kg, so my bet would be that it has a bit of go but probably not a match for a T with a 10psi map.

Is it 'just' a GT4 or the uber Group A GT4?

The Group A seemed to be a nice piece of kit, for what it was, a sillycar.

Had about 3 different bonnet vents/scoops and a big trolley rear wing.

The standard one had a single vernt and low profile spoiler from memory...

Has a massive rear wing (Australian owned since new, two owners). Could be just a rip off verison, but even the mags on it look kind of full on for factory rims (as I am told they are). Group A - that sounds scary. That exhaust was mighty loud (but then again so is my wife's SSS pulsar buzz box ). Still interested in performance figures - thanks for the advice so far

They are fantastic as a rally car, and particularly in the twisty stuff, straight line the T will kill it.

From recollection of driving a stock Group A GT4 they are particularly heavy due to all the 4WD running gear, but modded produce a reasonably fun to drive quick car for the twisty stuff….

They letdown is and always has been the weight…….

I have driven the older modela nd the newer GrpA and both were boring and slow. They look faster than they are.

I would not worry about being beaten, you could put the stock map in and still hose them.

They are underpowered and understeer like a pig.

My best friend has a 1994 GT4. We recently went on a trip down south. My stock T hosed him from the lights, and left him for dead with overtaking manoeuvres.

His has minor boost tweaks, but nothing major.

His has a low profile rear spoiler, and the big scoop in the centre of the bonnet.
