Market must of dropped out of Gladstone like it has in Mackay. 2 years ago there was barely a vacant house here. Now theres a high vacancy rate and for the first time in ages you can bargain with rentals

Yeah she's on the way down. Construction is starting to taper-off a bit now, which has hilariously caught everyone by surprise. I.e. who would have thought if you were put-on to build a pipeline once the pipeline was completed your work would finish?

More jobs will come and go but the excitement has died down a bit.

Still yet to find anyone that can tell me why the fck they didn't build a bridge over to Curtis? Panda have you any idea (considering you're one of 'them')?

I have a few ideas.. Nothing definite as I wasn't involved..

Bridge would of been quite easy to build (even though it would of been tidal).

So top bets as to why there was no bridge built:

A - Government refused to contribute.. Gas company didn't want to foot the whole bill.

B - Cost benefit analysis revealed that the bridge wasn't worth it..

However... I'm betting:

C - Environmental restrictions.. DAFF, DERM etc killed the project before it got past semen in some engineers pants stage..

Bloody greenies

Having hundreds of boats, ferries and barges polluting the already-fcked harbor makes much more sense I guess.

You'd have to think it would have easily paid itself off already before construction is even finished let alone the continuing operational needs. And A could be valid too...three competing gas companies probably wouldn't want to put their heads together out of spite even if it was going to be worthwhile.

BTW now two Maccas in Gladstone and one at the Calliope crossroads. The place is booming. :buttrock:

Yeah problem is I know one Maccas that took a while to get off the ground and completely missed the boom..

It's still gonna be a license to print money though..
