Am in the process of purchasing an ex-company XR6T and was wondering on whether I'm getting value for money?

Car is a 04/04 build, manual, premium brakes (I believe, they have FORD stamped on the calipers) and is used to commute from the mountains (Syd) to Parramatta most days. Currently has 45,000 on the clock and knowing the owner is lovingly cared for. It has been modified by Brad Garlick (chip & exhaust I believe) and owner has a dyno sheet which recorded 275 rwkw and 330 flywheel.

Knowing sh*t about the technicals regarding cars I was wondering if the group could share their knowledge and let me know if you think that high $30K is a reasonable price?

Also is there anything specific I should look for that might indicate a lemon.? Car has always been service by Brad Garlick and will continue to be for the next 4 years.

Thanks for you help

David (hopefully, a soon to be proud XR6T owner)

Hmm where do we start......

:spoton:

If it's a manual is it a T5 (5 speed) oe a T56(6 speed) if its the T5 running that sort of power you need to see if he is still running the standard clutch, if so bank on having to replace it pretty shortly. The standard clutch is not much good for 250rwkw+

Check if he has had the valve springs replaced as well.

3rd gear whine is common as well as gear chatter and it not wanting to go into third.

Check the freeplay in the driveline with the T5 see when you are driving whether it 'surges" when you are off the throttle and letting the drive of it's own momentum in gear.

Diff whine at 95km/h is common as well a what is described as 'Diff Clunk' when changing gears down in particular. Not all the time but it will be dependant on the car.

Premium stero whine, a whine through the stero when driving due to bad earthing.

The only other major I can think of at the moment is steering shudder at low speeds particulalry in car parks etc.

If it's 275rwkw I'd guess that it's had more than just the chip and exhaust modded. :glad:
