They do transmit way too much noise IMO. But tis a fault of the car I believe

Its the tyres.

Go for some Micheline Pilot Preceda's and you'll get a hell of a lot less road noise with a hell of a lot more grip :)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

How much are they Cro?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I think Bob Jane has em for $290 each now.

Thanks for your responses guys, great to be able to access a forum where everybody is passionate about the same thing. Looks like I'll have to work on wearing out my 5 tyres.

Sorry the music (Led Zepplin does sound great with the sound at 25, and I wasn't even aware of the tyre noise, so thanks for the tip :k24t: ) wasn't to everybodies liking but it sure does beat the Wiggles, Bob the builder etc etc.

Look forward to keeping in touch

Cheers,

Cam

I like to take the scientific approach.

Aim:

To find a relationship between the smile on ones face in comparrison to the smoke produced by multiple heli's and donuts.

Sub aim, to wear out tyres.

Method:

1. Drive to an industrial area on a weekend.

2. Rev car to 4 grand.

3. select 2nd gear.

4. sidestep the clutch and apply max throttle just after doing so.

5. Quickly use your left foot to feather the brake peddle, let go of the brake peddle as soon as the right angle to start your heli's is found; let them rip.

6. Swap tyres (front to back) and try again

Results:

Lots of smoke, thick, black lines throughout entire endustrial site. Multiple '8' like figures apparent, as well as multiple 'O' figures and 'donut' type figures.

Rear tyres down to the belts.

Conclusion:

I conclude that donuts and heli's do infact put a smile on the dial, and that they make a very successful and feasable method to wearing out ones tyres.

Explaining to the wife/girlfriend/mother why she needs to pick you up from an industrial area and take you to bob janes may provide a challenge.

That is all...

You could take it to a car detailer (or similar bussiness), who can apply a spray on product, similar to body schultz. I know of one here in wollongong that does it for all new BMW's and Falcons. Apparently it reduces the outside noise heaps. I think that it is appliedd to the wheel arches and the under body. Problem is, you get tar like black crap all over the underside of your car. However if they are careful during the application there shouldn't be much over spray on parts that may require mechanical attention in the future. I've been considering doing it to my car for a while now, if I get it done I'll post back and let you know how it goes

I've already applied this stuff and still get heaps of noise, so either:- they've duped me, I'm a fussy old fart, or the noise is coming from elsewhere (ie the boot). I might fill the boot up and see if that quietens things down, if so then one of those boot liners might be the go.

Option to visit an industrial estate has another advantage by coating the wheelarches with melted rubber you create the ideal body deadener!

Your problem is that the kids need to listen to Led Zeppelin - that way it eliminates road & child noise. BTW, I'd choose either Metallica, Megadeth or Slayer to get rid of my road noise...

I had the same deadener applied to the underbody of mt XR6T. It did help a bit. I had it explained to me that they can't apply it to the wheel arches as most of the inner linings are plastic which flexes and the lining will crack and fall off. So they only spray the metal parts.
