Dan K,

You can bet if the dyno is a old POS the dyno operator will have NFI about performance cars.

Any performance shop that knows their stuff will have a modern Dyno.

I'm just wondering if it could be partly right, no the detuning aspect, but more a safety aspect of the airbag.

Surely if you dont have your seat belt on it would be set not to detonate as it's near impossible to tell what situation you would be in, ie half way out the door or in some obscure position garanteed to kill you if the air bag went off?

Just my speculative brain at work at 4 in the morning :P

But seriously, could anyone research this and let the rest of this?

There are a lot of smarts in the Airbag sytems. I do know they take into account impact severity and direction to determine how hard to deploy the bags.

I was told by the dealer that the system also takes into account seat positions and that the pedal adjustment system is a safety feature intended to stop short people sitting too close to the bag. The pedals may or may not report back to the airbag controller.

Regards,

aa

A mate of mine did a real smart thing and got pissed and put his XR6 ute into a pole about 50 meters from where he left, he wasn't wearing a seatbelt and the airbag didn't go off. Is the airbag set to not deploy if the seatbelt isn't plugged in to prevent the airbag going off in someones face. The car was pretty heavily damaged and it even kinked the roof. He's got an approx. 10k repair bill cause it will need a new shell. He copped the rap, lost his licence for 10 months but he was suprised the airbag didn't go off.

I don't think you'll see the air bags deploy unless it's a write off (or close to it), the cars just crumple instead.

Trent.
