The premium brakes however do not come with 18" rims. I think though its a condition to have 18" rims to be able to get the premium brakes though? im sure one of our premium brakes owners can help you out! About 3 grand for the brakes and $1850 for 5 x 18" alloys.l cant really tell you if they are worth it as l havent driven a car with standard brakes, but from all l have read here about the brake problems some are having with the stockies, they have to be worth considering. aniken I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it Donating Members 4,316 Member For: 22y 5m 13d Gender: Male Location: Sydney, south west Posted 13/04/03 11:20 PM Share Posted 13/04/03 11:20 PM Are they worth it? I didn't think so, so I didn't get em. Surely Ford would not sell a car with brakes that don't do what they are supposed to do Of course, the XR6T is a big fat mama, and you do have to brake earlier (or harder, if you leave it too late) to bring it to a stop. This might not be as true of the premium brakes, but haven't driven one with them to compare. Henry Member 180 Member For: 22y 3m 28d Gender: Not Telling Posted 13/04/03 11:30 PM Share Posted 13/04/03 11:30 PM Had mine for about 2 weeks with the standard brakes. A bit spongy for first 100 kms or so, but a few firm stops they have got that solid pedal feel. Took it for a bit of a twisty quick run up and down hill over the weekend. No problems at all.I think that if you are going to do lots of very high speed stuff and/or circuit work, you should spend the extra for safety sake. From my limited experience so far, you would have to be going very hard, bordering on silly to induce any kind of brake fade.Enjoy Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/1632-brakes/#findComment-17289 Share on other sites
Guest ABC Guests Posted 13/04/03 11:53 PM Share Posted 13/04/03 11:53 PM Perhaps another safety consideration is if you are going to do any towing. There's nothing worse than coming around a corner with a boat on the back being faced with a line up of traffic from roadworks or something and having to stomp on the anchors and pray. PURSUTE Member 48 Member For: 22y 7m 22d Posted 14/04/03 01:36 AM Share Posted 14/04/03 01:36 AM Heres what has made me happy about getting the premiums:-The calipers on the front, and the grooved rotors look sweet!-The first time I gave them a god hard go I nearly detatched my retinas. They STOP!!-Smooth, easy braking and a lovely firm pedal.-Not even the remotest hint of the shudder/vibration that other people have experienced with the standard brakes.-The 5th 17" alloy was included in the 3 grand (you may have to pay extra for 18s, I dunno). And on the negative side? Nothing so far (*PURSUTE quickly grabs the nearest peice of wood*), well worth the money IMO. Posted 14/04/03 02:44 AM Share Posted 14/04/03 02:44 AM My dealer thought the premiums were not worth the money, so I didn't get them. If I experience the brake shudder (1500k so far no probs) will get them fixed under warranty then look at DBA's as a replacement.
