Except that with the Ford alarm it won't let you know if somebody puts your car on bricks and takes all your rims, and then smashes your window and takes all your CD's and whatever else is in the car.

In general factory alarms have one problem - they tend to all be installed identically so once a professional gets a good look at one, they can deal with it quickly in any car with a factory alarm.

Professional alarm installers will tend to vary the way they install it in the cars they do - even the way they do it in the same cars. They will route the wiring differently, mount the alarm itself a little differently, and so on. It makes it much harder for someone to quickly disarm it and its much more likely they will set it off.

What's the point of a factory alarm? Seriously what does it do that the smartsheild (or whatever it's called) won't stop in 30 seconds time?

Trent.

Hi blackwrx.. your a long way from rexnet. :)

My factory alarm has picked up the habit of going off by itself when you turn the engine over even if the car hadn't been locked.. Ford have blamed the car battery and replaced it.. time will tell I guess.

The factory alarm has a sensor on all doors, so if someone brakes the glass and opens the door with the interior handle it will go off. It also has a boot sensor (if someone busts the window and presses the boot button) and a bonnet sensor for the same idea.....

May be garbage but its gotta be better then nothing I think, will soon alert anyone nearby that somethings wrong plus it may even make your insurance a little cheaper...

The genuine Ford alarm is good for peace of mind.

Sure, it doesnt monitor glass break, but a glass break sensor can be easily added to it by anyone with the degree of skill to install the alarm itself.

I have installed my own genuine Ford alarm, and while I didnt bother to fit a glassbreak sensor, it saw how it could be very easily added.

Unless you have a lot of expensive gear in the car, I wouldnt bother with getting a really expensive alarm.

In a worst case scenario, they break in, they steal your $10 change from the glovebox.

This is why you get motor vehicle insurance.

Not sure exactly what alarm we are talking about here But The Tickford factory fitted alarm on my Pursuit Ute will go off if you try and jack it up or even bump the vehicle.

When Armed if Im really careful I can open the rear cover without it going off but you need to be very carefull or it will go balistsic.

Maybe they have different levels of Alarms?

Blackwrx,

To answer your previous question regarding the installation of amps and a sub in your Ford ute, here is the stage that I am up to at the moment.

Im currently in the process of installing the following components in my Ute:

- 2 x Earthquake amplifiers

- 1 x 10" DD 9110 sub

- 40 Farad capacitor

- Extra battery (Odyssey)

- Audio Control EQX pre-amp and crossover

- 2 x pairs of Boston Acoustic 5 x 7's (to go into factory locations)

- Pure silver (99.9999) interconnects

The above setup is really only for SQ purposes and not for outright SPL.

All of the above will fit in a Ford ute, so I have no doubt that you will be able to install a good sounding audio system too.

I will post pics as I start the installation (I'm only just starting to buld the box at present).

I dont think you would want to go larger than a 12" sub unless you start modifying the vehicle and installing the subs on the rear tray, then running a port into the cabin.

I have the Ford alarm fitted. It was a piece of mind thing at the time.

One annoying aspect it that it toots the horn everytime you lock (2 toots) and unlock (1 toot).

The dealer suggested the lock nuts at the time as the wheels have dissapeared off cars in their yard.

I found a tyre dealer who sold me a rim with a next to new tyre for $450 with $100 trade in on the steel wheel and tyre.

My factory alarm doesn't sound the horn.. maybe your dealer can disable that function? The only time I hear the horn beep is when I pop the boot while the alarm is active..
