Hey all,

Been offline for a while but have had plenty of fun in the T in that time.

Question - (serious, I know we all love our T's and know they are quick but need some honest feedback...)

Should a standard XR6T generally be quicker from the lights than an R33 Skyline? I thought the Skylines were some pretty fast machines, but had a real go with one a few weeks back and wiped him.

No doubt I launched the worst way possible - aircon on, traction control on, in drive, and just floored it from idle. Skyline was a manual and he launched on boost so got a car length on me - then my turbo spooled up, he had to change gears and that was the end of it, he couldnt catch up. He was a bit upset at the next set of lights.....

Any comments / similar experiences appreciated.

Cheers,

Michael.

Standard R33 GTs-t will kill an xr6 turbo hands down

I disagree.

A standard R33 GTS-T puts out 187kw @ 6400 rpm. It weighs a healthy 1390kg which works to its advantage.

However it only runs 0-100 in 6.96 seconds.

1/4 miles are 14.3 seconds.

A standard T properly driven will kick it 0-100 by over a second, or another way you could put it is that a standard T is 17.7% FASTER than an R33 GTS-T over 0-100.

High Performance Imports - Buyers Guide 2001 quotes the following times for stock Skylines (Yep - I'm a car magazine nerd):

R33 GTS-t 0-100 in 6.21 secs, 400m in 14.37 secs

R34GTS-t 0-100 in 6.02 secs, 400m in 14.32 secs

R32 GTS-t 0-100 in 6.89 secs, 400m in 15.01 secs (auto)

R32 GTR 4.73 and 13.02

R33 GTR 4.94 and 13.19

R34  GTR 4.92 and 13.13

Standard XR6T (Motor November 2002)

0-100 in 5.9 and 14.2 400m. (Manual - auto similar but easier to achieve)

Summary: Have fun with the GTS -ts and beware the GTRs as most are modded.

Those R33 and R34 speeds are for Jap spec fuel. We dont have fuel that good here, so those times arent very relevant. That imported is being a bit dodgy in quoting those figures.

As an example, the R33 GTS-T here will do 6.96 sec 0-100 on 97 octane.

Yeah, I have seen R33 gts-t strugle to do mid 14's, the only skyline worth having IMO is a GTR.

After reading a lot of claims about the standard performance I thought it was about time to find genuine performance figures for the R32 GTR. I have a April 1990 Motor Mag and a comparison was done between the Sierra RS 500 Cosworth, Walkinshaw Commodore, Turbo Supra and the R32 GTR.

Ford Sierra Cosworth 0 to 100kph - 6.40, 400m - 14.70, top speed - 243kph

Walkinshaw 0 to 100kph - 7.03, 400m - 15.22, top speed - 235kph

Toyota Supra 0 to 100kph - 7.51, 400m - 15.45, top speed - 225kph

R32 GTR 0 to 100kph - 4.80, 400m - 13.10, top speed - 235kph

Meh, I have dragged an R33 GTS-T and beaten it but who cares! There are so many out there its ridiculous. One can be a lemon another can be modified to run 12s! There are hardly any stock ones out there so whats the use in arguing about it. Plus a lot of dickheads own them who couldn't drive a nail into hot sh*t.

At least Nissan have the guts to build cars like the GT-R and other Skylines. I wish Ford Oz would build cars like Nissan does...

Yep bang on there Mickg and Dazza!

Having owned both, the T is a quicker car and the only Jap import I would even remotely consider owning now would be the vspecII 34 GTR!! (however strangely enough I dont have a lazy $100 000+ lying around...)

Cheers Luke.

guys,

does it really matter how people have to drive there car in order to acheive a certain time?

You guys keep saying that the only reason his fast is cause he dumps the clutch at high revs.

Yes very good. After all it is 4WD double the traction, double the reevs makes sense doesn't it.

:pinch:

Yeah,

Like the Subie driver at Calder on Friday 04/03. One too many enthusiatic launches for the night. Took the marshalls 15 minutes to clear the oil from the track after the engine lunched itself.

I guess the point was the level of abuse given to the car to achieve the result.
