Street Tuner Member 727 Member For: 22y 1m 6d Posted 10/03/05 09:39 PM Share Posted 10/03/05 09:39 PM Martin, Could you please let us know whats the latest with finding a solution for the surging / boost control issues being experienced by the majority of custom tuned cars ?CheersSteve<{POST_SNAPBACK}>In fact only some of the generic tune cars show this problem. Most custom tunes are able to eliminate any issues with the boost control system. Watch for some revisions to the boost tuning process over the next fortnight, in an attemp to make the process simpler

He mentioned boost was spiking and was unable to control it.So much so I have re-applied the factory tune until a solution is found. Guess I'm just re-iterating Steve's sentiments. Any info would be greatly appreciated.Regards,Tom.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>I do believe that part of this problem is caused by the attack rate being requested. I.e. you want 11psi @ 2800rpm. Attempting to control the wastegate in such an aggressive manner will lead to control problems with overboost of the target figure. Let me explain.Consider the system like an oscillating spring, where the software is the shock absorber. The first time the spring hits a bump (or the boost comes on in the engine) the shock absorber does its best to control the system from 'bouncing' (boost wandering either side of aim). The bigger the 'bump' (or the more desired boost you aim for at low rpm) the harder it is for the shocker to effectively dampen (for boost to be accurately controlled). The solution in this instance is to reduce the 'bump' or bring the desired boost on in a more gentle fashion to allow complete control. This was suggested, and tried at the time your car was on the dyno with some success, but the tuner didn't want to compromise the 10 - 15kw that bringing the boost on sharply would deliver. Street Tuner Member 727 Member For: 22y 1m 6d Posted 10/03/05 09:49 PM Share Posted 10/03/05 09:49 PM Under hard excelerating, it starts to make a strange noise toward the back of the car, possibly from the exhaust and surges a bit but does not cut out completely. IS IT OVERBOOSTING? What else might it be? I have not been game enough to push her hard to find out any more symptons. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>These sorts of problems cant be fixed by a crystal ball approach. Take it to an authorised tuner. There are several in your locale - Nizpro, HPF, Herrods etc. and have the plugs gapped, fuel delivery tested etc.

However we have covered this ground in some detail. I for one will be too busy answering the genuine questions in here to get tangled up in the argument of how a chinese made box of resistors and capacitors compares to a genuine PCM Editing tool.If you need any more convincing remember.....Nizpro....130.9mph..... I havent seen any dyno graphs other than ones which show the edit with more power due to increased boost. I'd like to see same boost, same AFR with better torque and power curves under edit.I think a lot of piggyback owners would like to see this as changing to edit is an expensive exercise especially if it yeilds no power gains other than those achieved with more boost. There is a thread here on it.

There is a thread here on it.Well it hasn't been proven yet. JB is yet to produce any boost vs power graphs.Surely as the head tuner for cappa you would have some proof on hand of the edit's superiority over piggybacks with a customer's conversion?
