Quick one for you Martin, In relation to boomer01's post above.

I realise that the flash box didn't seem to care about the new version of the standard tune and allowed the 10 psi map to be loaded without a problem.

But when you go to put the stock tune back in the car next time, will it be the old version you had in your flash box before the Ford update?

Or does the box pick up the stock tune before it downloads the 10psi map back in?

If so would Ford notice that they had updated your PCM last time you were in but that it had reverted to a previous version?

xr,

ST answered this after I asked the question.

The Edit will only download the ECU F tune when you first use the box. If after you get a ECU update it WILL NOT update with the latest, unless you get the box cleared by the Edit seller. So when you go back to Ford and put your F tune back in, it will be the version that your car first had when you Edited it. After a few years, this could be several versions old. But if you are happy with the Factory tune you could demand that Ford do not do any ECU updates.....but this could also make them sus.

Just also to clarify any tune you download is still saved in the box, so if it is overwritten by the dealer you just reload it back in when you get the car back.

It's like a copy and paste, not a cut and paste :gooff:

Martin I do have one question,

If the dealer loads new PCM software onto your car, and then you flash your tune back on when you get it back, does the old uploaded tune overwrite all of the recent updated flash or does it take advantage of only certain parameters, hence not overriding certain aspects of the dealers new flash?

I know it may be a bit out there question but I just want to learn and understand.

Maybe to help stop all the speculating about "what if" this and that when going to the dealer.

I recently went to Ford for a warranty job (replacement of a radiator - standard issue!), and the mechanic that was working on it is a friend of someone from this forum, was asked to try and scan the ECU for error codes or any unusal business.

It was hinted to him that the car may had been edited and we had concerns about errors etc (ofcourse it has been, although I had it on the factory tune before taking it there).  The mechanic gave me codes that were loaded in the memory and stated there was no evidence of any other problem or edit that had caused this problem (codes were related to issues I had already known about - like the boost leak from the other week when the factory pipe/clamp decided it didn't like 10psi).

So this guy was looking for problems that could have related to an edit (as suggested to him) and there was nothing to be found to conclusively say whether or not the car had been edited.  Enough proof for me (not that I care much anyhow - warranty is up in November and Ford have generally been useless at solving any problems I have had concerning the ECU)

Joel.

I had an emergency issue with my car last week and it went immediately to the dealers, hence the standard tune was loaded into the car without being driven before it went in. The dealers fixed the car, do not know if they logged into the PCM but nothing was said when I picked the car up, and I know the car was test driven by both the mechanic and the service manager.

It would be handy if anybody could clear the F edit in the box, that way when the dealer uploaded the latest factory version, you could save it for next time.

since memory is as cheap as chips, maybe the box could be further developed to store more than just the 4 edits available with a LED selector. Just a thought

The answer to JB's question above will be interesting.

Martin,

Could you please let us know  whats the latest with finding a solution for the surging / boost control issues being experienced by the majority of custom tuned cars ?

Cheers

Steve

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

In fact only some of the generic tune cars show this problem. Most custom tunes are able to eliminate any issues with the boost control system.

Watch for some revisions to the boost tuning process over the next fortnight, in an attemp to make the process simpler

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Hi Martin,

A query RE your reply to a post on the boost surging issue. You mentioned a revision to the boost tuning process. Any news on when this is likely to be released? Thanks.

Regards,

Tom.

This modification to the basic XR6T operating system is still being tested. Dare I say it, but near enough '2 weeks' should be sufficient time.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Will this modification allow the boost to be brought in hard from 3000rpm? Say a commanded 15psi from 3000rpm without surging?

Currently I'm running 12psi without any drama's other than power loss after a few runs because the stock intercooler cannot keep up.

Thanks,

Jason.
