What is the manufacture date?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Given the fact its a 6 speed, I would assume it is a Mk2, which makes it very young.I may be wrong though, I was once before.

The rest of the car is running stock components, so far so good.

I thought it was just my driving but my brother has the same problem when he drives it. I dont think the 6 speed can handle much more power but I could be wrong. Posted 04/03/05 02:05 AM Share Posted 04/03/05 02:05 AM Onya Steve...good topic mate.Well mine's like a barina compared to some of the more highly modded T's out there now, but I was one of the first to go over 300rwkw, and here's what I found. At 310 rwkw, my auto lasted 6 months before getting very noisy, slipping and eventually refusing to find reverse.I got a a new auto rated at 360rwkw. I then went to over 330 rwkw, and the power was handled easily by the box. I dont drive my car very hard, but when I do, I do it properly. There are 3-4 times per day when I nail the throttle for no more than 5 seconds - at various speeds. That's the extent of my gard driving (and usually all I need to blow away any competition). No detonation at all, no diff problems at all...hell I dont even get driveline shunt!.If I were to keep my car, I would go up to 360 rwkw without doing the rods and pistons....for my driving anyway.Hope this helps. Yeah, I am not sure myself All I know is the T5 is not overly strong with various members getting different results out of them.I was looking at a T56 as Ben from Mal Woods and others believe that it will hold the power alot better than the T5.Bruce is now running 390rwkw and has installed a T56 and it seems to be handling that power well, so from that and a couple of othersw experiences with the T56 I would say it's the next step above the T5, as No one has got past 330rwkw with the T5.With that being said the T56 whilst seeming to be able to handle the power better than the T5, still has very similar issues with bearing noise, not wanting to go into gear and so on. Maybe just a trait again of some of the ford put in their cars.If I was you try changing your gearbox oil to Castrol Transmax Z, this will no doubt improve your shift and I would suggest help it engage the problem gear you are having. This is what most people including myself have done. There is a thread on which is the best oil to use under Mal Wood Autos, have a read.

I believe they mention the secret is with the clutch but can't confirm. Perhaps this car is only used for dynos and testing so it doesn't take much harsh treatment...Have you tried a heavy duty clutch JB?

I might get the mechanic to drop the gearbox oil at the next service and try out the Castrol.

Happy to be corrected. Then again if he is running 500rwkw odd then with a T5 I am very interested on how he has! Mate have already got a cushion button clutch in, the factory one was slipping at 260rwkw and scorched the flywheel. The one currently in will be coming out in the next week or so as the centre is too strong for the car. Another similar setup will go in with a softer centre.Pic of what is currently in the car.
