Well, even if the Typhoon has a higher towing capacity I would not recommend towing with one because of one major reason - the twin plate clutch. All my years of experience with towing says never use a twin plate. I had a car once with a twin plate and I threw it out after only a couple of thousand kms.

There is no problem at all with your insurance company regarding towing limits. They couldn't care less what the manufacturer recommends BUT they will be very strict on the "legal" limit. Towing a float with two large horses will see you at about 1600kg - 1700kg total weight, and with the electric brakes most floats have nowadays as standard it is well within the legal limit.

PS My horses have never complained to me that I drag them around with a manual - it is actually smoother than an auto if you can drive.

Got some bad news for you..Insurance company's do give a sh*t..

I have to regularly go and check out cars and trailers that have been in accdents to make sure they are legal.Corect towbars and brakes, lights ect They are constantly looking at ways to not pay.. :w00t2:

Auto is the way to go for towing as thew allow a higer towing limit on most of the newer cars.. All you need to do is put on the biggest oil cooler you can get to help with the temp, it also give's more fluid ,you should also change the fluid more regularly..

It suprises me that more of you guys dont have coolers on your autos with all the rubber you say that you lay and for the drag raceing you say you do..

I don't do it any more but when I did I allways had a cooler on ..

That's when I was a Expensive Daewoo fan :w00t2: Young and silly.. Along time ago :w00t2:

Hey how come I get a warning % and no one else has??  :w00t2:

You can only ever see your own warning level, like I can see that mine says 20%, for crimes commited against a knob

Yes, they do look at ways to get out of paying up. Legal ways. What the car manufacturer recommends for any particular model is not the law. The manufacturer, in this case Ford, may set a lower towing limit on manuals because of the clutch. Fact is most people can't drive properly and Ford do this so they can get out of excessive warranty claims that they would certainly have if every person bought a manual. And not just when towing either. Now the worst that can happen if you exceed the manufacturers limit is lose warranty. However as long as you keep within the legal towing limits set by your state road authority you cannot be refused a claim by your insurance company.

Autos are great for towing for those people who can't drive a manual correctly. A transmission cooler will add minimal extra oil and will assist in keeping the transmission cool for only the first five minutes of towing - after that the temp will still rise because the rate of dissipation of heat from most coolers will be far less than the extra heat created by the load on the transmission.

However for me the main reason I choose a manual for towing is for the vehicle control. An auto can never give the same control because of the indirect drive between the engine and transmission.
