Guest mrcrazydude Guests Posted 02/03/05 02:40 AM Share Posted 02/03/05 02:40 AM Need some advice on what can be safely towed with a T. I love the T, but was leaning towards a 'phoon b/c they can *reputedly* tow more. Has anyone towed more than the 1200kg Ford recommend for a Manual?Second, and Mal Woods & others please help out, how much do you recon they can tow as standard, given all parts. And what would be required to get it towing more..... ie. not frequently, but I need to be able to tow a float + 1 horse minimum (bout 1600kg load) and would love to have at least 2000kg, looking at getting a hayman reese kit if poss. So, whats the consensus?? Thanks guys! Tim

They much prefer the smooth acceleration of an auto over a manual.

In these days of sometimes ludicrous claims by third parties is that a risk you wish to take?....your call.Dingah

Talk to anyone who does any serious towing on a regular basis, and the first thing that happens to an auto is the tranny fluid boils! Second is it burns things out, clutch, gearbox and brakes! I mean seriously trucks, land cruisers etc are manual for a reason.Plus, I shouldn't have bought the last auto I got and am sure as hell :devilflame: never going to make that mistake again! Thanks

I just wish they would fix the clutch Besides, you can get a vehicle re-regulated for towing after having work done... correct me if I'm wrong? All my years of experience with towing says never use a twin plate. I had a car once with a twin plate and I threw it out after only a couple of thousand kms. There is no problem at all with your insurance company regarding towing limits. They couldn't care less what the manufacturer recommends BUT they will be very strict on the "legal" limit. Towing a float with two large horses will see you at about 1600kg - 1700kg total weight, and with the electric brakes most floats have nowadays as standard it is well within the legal limit.PS My horses have never complained to me that I drag them around with a manual - it is actually smoother than an auto if you can drive. Insurance companies never appear to care until they are liable for a claim.Dingah
