Need some advice on what can be safely towed with a T. I love the T, but was leaning towards a 'phoon b/c they can *reputedly* tow more. Has anyone towed more than the 1200kg Ford :pooh: recommend for a Manual?

Second, and Mal Woods & others please help out, how much do you recon they can tow as standard, given all parts. And what would be required to get it towing more..... ie. not frequently, but I need to be able to tow a float + 1 horse minimum (bout 1600kg load) and would love to have at least 2000kg, looking at getting a hayman reese kit if poss.

So, whats the consensus?? :gooff:

Thanks guys! :pooh:

Tim

Tim,

I checked and the F6 apparently CAN tow 1600kg

If you want to tow, buy an autoW :gooff:

Done a fair bit of towing with horses.

Short answer, horses = auto. They much prefer the smooth acceleration of an auto over a manual.

This has been discussed befoore and you need to bear in mind that if you exceed the published towing limitations of either the Turbo or Typhoon in manual or auto form you will be totally liable for accidents and damage caused should any incident occur whilst you are towing. In these days of sometimes ludicrous claims by third parties is that a risk you wish to take?....your call.

Not going to happen!! Talk to anyone who does any serious towing on a regular basis, and the first thing that happens to an auto is the tranny fluid boils! Second is it burns things out, clutch, gearbox and brakes! I mean seriously trucks, land cruisers etc are manual for a reason.

Plus, I shouldn't have bought the last auto I got :spoton: and am sure as hell :devilflame: never going to make that mistake again!

Thanks

Mmm, hence the leaning toward a 'phoon.... apart from the fact that I personnally love the styling, and by the time I option the T to where I want it, the price virtually matches the 'phoon as standard with most of what I want!! :ermm:

I just wish they would fix the :spoton: clutch :spoton:

Besides, you can get a vehicle re-regulated for towing after having work done... correct me if I'm wrong? :ermm:

Well, even if the Typhoon has a higher towing capacity I would not recommend towing with one because of one major reason - the twin plate clutch. All my years of experience with towing says never use a twin plate. I had a car once with a twin plate and I threw it out after only a couple of thousand kms.

There is no problem at all with your insurance company regarding towing limits. They couldn't care less what the manufacturer recommends BUT they will be very strict on the "legal" limit. Towing a float with two large horses will see you at about 1600kg - 1700kg total weight, and with the electric brakes most floats have nowadays as standard it is well within the legal limit.

PS My horses have never complained to me that I drag them around with a manual - it is actually smoother than an auto if you can drive.

Indeed you are correct Turbo6 but the legal limit also includes what you car is approved my the manufacturer under current ADRs to tow as per the handbook. Insurance companies never appear to care until they are liable for a claim.
